Not to step on the toes of my fellow Ghostbusters fans, but this year also marks the 30th anniversary of another standout property: Transformers.
‘Transformers: The Movie’ wasn’t perfect, but this 30th-anniversary edition certainly is.
I’ve come to rely on Shout Factory for a lot entertainment-wise, most specifically for my robot-related home video needs. Their most recent offerings are particularly noteworthy, especially to the geekily inclined.
Following up May’s release of Transformers: Armada, the team at Shout Factory has just made available the second chapter in the Unicron Trilogy, Transformers: Energon – The Complete Series.
Armada stands out as a particularly interesting point in the Transformers franchise’s history. In the early 2000s this series marked a total reboot to Transformers continuity, and, along with sequels Energon and Cybertron, made up the first portion of what is known as the Unicron Trilogy.

Geek Culture is a many faceted thing with the term meaning different things to most geeks. This category highlights some of the movies we feel define us as geeks. Most of these are family friendly, but a couple are targeted at the adult and near-adult geeks among us.
As far as I’m concerned, the new fall season can’t get here fast enough. Every summer I manage to find a couple of series to get me through the doldrums, but I still tend to split most of my TV time between Netflix and Blu-ray/DVD releases of older fare.

Like any good nerd, what is a single night of revelry for regular folks — Halloween — is a month-long event for me. In addition to a slow roll-out of decorations and the laborious task of cobbling together the perfect costumes for me and my brood, the seasonal merrymaking also includes weekly viewing of especially spooky programming. Of course, now that my kids are old enough to want to participate I’ve had to dial back the gore.
