This week the prayers of millions of Transformers fans were answered via a press release from multimedia powerhouse Shout Factory. Shout, an organization that has already provided us with countless quality Transformers releases, has just signed a multi-year agreement that grants it North American distribution rights to the classic 1986 feature film Transformers: The Movie.

Their Transformers: The Movie 30th Anniversary Edition will be available on September 13th in the US and Canada on DVD and Blu-ray. Yes, newly remastered and transferred in HD from the original 35mm print and complete with bonus content and special packaging, this promises to be the release that we’ve been clamoring for—an affordable, domestic release on glorious Blu-ray!

In the meantime (assuming, of course, that you’re properly familiar with the Generation 1 continuity), there’s no better time to check out Shout’s Transformers Japanese Collection: Headmasters, Super-God Masterforce, and Victory. This will get you up to speed on all the crazy antics and crazier theme songs enjoyed by Japanese audiences after the conclusion of our fourth and final season of the original animated series.
