We featured our sponsor, Experience America, and their amazing summer camp for high-school kids who want to learn more about the gaming industry about this time last year (see here, here, here, and here). They’re back for 2016 with a new version of the program, and it’s as exciting as ever.
For two-and-a-half weeks, in one of two summer sessions, students entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade can get a practical crash-course in how video games are really made, taught by people with industry experience. Students live and learn at the University of Washington, and field trips include visits to top-level game studios in the greater Seattle area, as well as hands-on class work.
Students learn the whole life-cycle of game creation, from game theory and history, to art design, game and level design, creative design, and even monetization strategies, all from people who work at AAA game studios. By the end of the camp, students will have worked in teams and built their own games.
