I am still amazed by the concept of wireless charging. I do it daily–multiple times daily–but it still seems like some sort of strange, delicate magic. I’ll set my phone on a cradle, listen for that familiar sound of a successful connection, and then go about my business… for a time.
Inevitably, I’ll sneak back over or steal a glance, perhaps even paw at the power button to awaken the screen–all just to confirm that my phone is, indeed, charging. Like it always inevitably is.
I had the same reaction when I first began trying out the Montar Air Qi Wireless Charging Car Mount. I’d clip my phone in, drive a few blocks, and then obsessively double-check its connection at every red light.
But here’s the thing: after a little day-one niggling to ensure that the cradle was at the right height–the Montar Air adjusts at the bottom so as to accommodate smartphones of various lengths and with varying charging “sweet spots”– I’ve yet to have any connection problems. Even through my case, which isn’t exactly insubstantial, the Montar Air provides a steady, stable charge.

Simply place your phone on the charge-mount and then lock it sturdily into place with a pinch. It offers support for phones with screens up to 6 inches, and my old-style Nexus 6 fits perfectly.
A floating ball joint allows you to swivel the mounted phone 360 degrees, and it’s firm enough to keep your phone aloft even on the infamously poorly maintained roadways of the rural south.
Bundled with a USB micro/lighter receptacle cable and a special adhesive suction cup, the Montar Air Qi Wireless Charging Car Mount has everything you need to bring Qi charging to your commute. Unless, of course, your car is a little short on proper mounting space.
I played around with a few configurations for in my Scion xB before eventually deciding to invest in a universal cup holder mount adapter. This allowed me to put the charge-mount in a spot that’s close at hand without compromising my visibility by cluttering up the dash.
The Montar Air Qi Wireless Charging Car Mount currently lists for just south of $60 on Amazon. While that might sound like a lot, the fact that this unit is both a reliable wireless charger and a durable car mount definitely sweetens the deal. Add in the included charge cable, its adjustable (and oh-so-accommodating) side and bottom supports, and the simplicity of its one-hand lock and release functionality, and you have a perfect solution for practically any Qi-compatible smartphone.
