Playmobil Playroom: Playmobil Space Mars Space Station

Products Reviews Toys

Welcome to the Playmobil Playroom, where we take a monthly peek inside those impressive blue boxes and see what treasures await within. Sometimes we’ll have step-by-step photos walking you through assembly, maybe we’ll discuss and review a particular set or theme, or maybe we’ll have an unboxing video.

Playmobil has struck gold in our family with the Space line of toys! We received the Mars Space Station set to review, and not to spoil anything right off the bat but my son exclaimed, “This is the best toy ever! I want to keep it forever and give it to my kids!” For context, he has never even mentioned having kids before now, much less wanting to save a toy to hand down.

Here’s our unboxing video:

Specs:

  • Product Number: 9487
  • Number of figures: 2 humans and 1 robot
  • Extras required: 2 AAA batteries

Ease of Build:

On a scale of 1-5, this set is a 3. Most of the pieces are pretty easy to put together. There are a couple of pieces that are extremely small and a couple that are hard to get into place, like the airlock and the clear hatch on the “glass” case, but overall it was pretty straightforward.

Coolest Features:

  • Lights and sounds! I’m not usually one for electronics, but I am also a huge space and sci-fi fan, so these appealed to me as much as they did the kids.
  • We really loved the detailed space suits and helmets.
  • The way the pods and airlock all open and close is really cool!
  • There’s a robot—enough said.

Playability:

With so many parts, figures, and accessories, there is a TON of playability and replay value with this set as is. Both of my kids have already spent more time playing with this set than any of the other Playmobil sets they’ve tried out.

But if that wasn’t enough, the other Space Mars Mission sets can be connected together to further extend the playability. The Mission Rocket set is the perfect launch point for your Mars Mission and the Satellite Meteoroid Laser is especially cool because not only can it attach to the Rocket booster from that set but it can dock with the Space Station set as well!

(Disclosure: This Playmobil set was provided free of charge for review purposes. All opinions remain our own.)
