While many of us anxiously wait for Season 2 of Stranger Things to arrive, Netflix has dropped something else in its lineup with which you may or may not be familiar. It’s called Glitch, and it’s an Australian production that offers up a slightly creepy and mysterious premise–a small town police officer discovers a small group of individuals have risen from the dead in the local cemetery. That’s all I’m going to tell you other than it’s not a show for everyone (especially kids)–strong language, sexual content, nudity, and violence. It’s not really a spoiler because it’s in the series description, but I will avoid any further discussion here and warn you away from reading any further because I’m going to share some of the questions I now have after finishing the six 1-hour episodes.

So… stop reading NOW if you wish to avoid any spoilers.
Seriously… don’t read any further unless you want more than a few surprises ruined.
Okay.
SPOILER QUESTIONS BELOW
Okay, so if you’ve read this far I’m going to assume you’ve watched the full first season (because YES, Netflix has picked up the series and is helping fund the second season) and are familiar with the character names and such. You probably have questions, and I’d love to hear them in the comments section below. And if you have answers to any of my questions, please share! I may very well have missed something!
These questions are in no particular order, so here goes:
- Do they often bury bodies in Australia shallow or without coffins? The first thing that jumped out at me was how in the world could they bust out of the coffins and six feet of dirt before suffocating? A later episode showed them burying Maria and Vic in very shallow graves wrapped in blankets.
- Why in the world would a dog whistle trigger memories in the previously dead? And what is the dog whistle doing in John’s grave? Any given that Elishia finds it and hides it means that she knows the function of the dog whistle?
- Vic died in the car crash–he heard that strange sound on the radio that caused him to swerve (???) and run off the road. It’s electrical in nature (at least to me) but why didn’t anyone else hear the sound who approached one of the exits to the town. (I think he was heading home and was near one of the town exits, but I could be wrong.)
- Elishia tells James that “that’s not Vic.” If Vic returned from the dead with a different personality or goal, why didn’t any of the others (Maria, Kate, Kirsten, etc.) return with different personalities? It’s also hinted (strongly) that Sarah has returned as Not-Sarah after dying during the surgery to save her life, so do those who die in the town instantly return from the dead OR did Elishia do something to her during her pregnancy? (Elishia is seen doing her ultrasound, so I’m assuming Sarah has had more than one visit with this country doctor.)
- Elishia states that the pharmaceutical company works for her! From episode 1 and that brief glimpse of the pharmaceutical building that the company is somehow involved (or it’s the biggest red herring ever)… the logo appears on medicine bottles, shirts, and paperwork, so something’s up there. And let’s not forget the pharma-representative wiping up Vic’s blood on the bridge. At one point, Kate states that the company makes antivirals, right? Makes me wonder if ‘death’ is looked at as a virus to be cured.
- Why didn’t John recover his memories like the others? It took the dog whistle to remind him. Actually, it took Vic KNOWING the function of the dog whistle to tell John to blow the whistle to get his memories back. Very strange that John didn’t get his memories back… AND that Elishia seems so focused on him.
- Vic states that the revived will die again… that Kate’s cancer will come back. Is this truth or is he just lying? If lying, is Vic a bad guy here? Do those who die NOW and come back return as something a little more evil than the other revived?
- We still haven’t learned how Charlie died, although there is strong hints that he might have committed suicide after returning from the war. It’s also possible Charlie’s homosexuality may have been a problem for him in this small town… he might also be the victim of murder. At first I thought they were all murdered, but Maria died in a car accident (her own fault) and Kate died of cancer. Only Kirsten, Charlie, John, and Paddy were killed. so I’m thinking the method of their deaths is probably not important.
- When Vic breaks Maria’s neck, it appears he may be a bit stronger than the other revived? Did anyone else think that? And him standing outside the dry cleaners for 12+ hours seemed very odd. I’m hoping Season 2 is going to answer just what happened to Vic (and maybe to Sarah).
- The big reveal is that Elishia has been dead for four years. Who brought her back? Was her coming back part of the reason she’s trying so hard to protect the revived? Or does she have her own agenda? She up and left them at end of Season 1, but I think it’s obvious she’s not gone for good… tossing all her meds in a bag makes me wonder if she might be heading for the pharmaceutical company? (And was it her car that we saw in the very first few seconds of Episode 1 leaving the graveyard when Bo arrives after hearing the screams?)

I finished up season one last week myself, Jim, and I totally agree; Like ‘Les Revenants’ before it, ‘Glitch’ manages to be a compelling, entertaining story of the living dead despite the fact that it always asks more questions than it answers!
Did Sarah die during surgery after she gave birth. If she is dead then im gonna be very upset at the ending of the show
I just found out that she is dead. I am so pissed at the way the show ended wtf
No Joseph, she is not dead. She was “gone” for a second, but returned like Vic as a slightly meaner version. Both dropped their hot coffee cups only after a few seconds, when they feel the heat. And I think Eilishia belongs to this group of revived as well, because she is a less vively person than she originally was ( photo of her with another female shows her as a very happy person)
I think John’s whistle is a bosun’s whistle, which they used to communicate sail changes on old sailing vessels.
Interesting. You may be right. Still, makes me wonder how Vic knew it would trigger John’s memories as well as the other revived.
Yes, it is a boatswain’s pipe, not a dog whistle. They are still used in the Navy for ceremonial use.
Also interesting is the pharmaceutical Co name “noregard” as in No Regard for human life.
I think the Angel of Death inhabited Vic’s body when he crashed, come to earth and clean up the unatural mess. Once James killed him, the Angel selected another body to inhabit, Sarah, to continue his work. In essence, James’s actions killed his second wife.
‘The real Vic’ as I will call him didn’t belive James that they went back to life. Then he had the car accident and kind of get freezed for a second I mean he looked like dead. Then the music turns on and Vic opens his eyes, on next day he trusts James about Kate and others. I think that he knew what is the whistle thing for cause he was dead somehow and his mission was to make the Returned People dead again, he knew that if John remembers his life and death, he will want to die again. I felt that Elishia may be dead, but for me the searious question is: why doesn’t she have any barieer or place she can not cross (place when her eyes will start to bleed etc.) or if she does, where is it? Also does the pharmaceutical company know about Elishia’s death? A lot of questions, but zero answers
Elisha took the mess, I’m guessing thesestop her dying again so she can cross invisible barriers.
MAJOR SPOILER ALERT for 2nd season!. I think after wat ching the third episode of the second season, that they’re actually FALLEN ANGELS!. It just clicked, after a convo . between Aleshia and john who’s name isn’t john BTW…
I feel like John Doe’s flute is actually Gabriel’s horn
Good news Aust’s ABC has renewed for Season 2 next year. There are some seriously good shows in our ABC.
Yup! Apparently it is co-funded by netflix so the rumor is we will get to see Season 2 at same time it is shown in Australia.
I think that the people are confined to where they die? so if Elisha died somewhere inbetween…. or they get stronger over time… Vic mentioned to John that he is stronger than the rest, maybe that comment has something to do, or the doctor isn’t even Elisha???
And if Elisha’s been dead, like the others, why is it that when she and Charlie were gathering “data” she wasn’t affected?
Also…I wonder if Paddy’s will gives Beau’s family the house!?
In the end Chris said Elisha was dead four years ago; Elisha told James that she was a researcher before she “moved here”, and in episode 1 Kate didn’t got the chance know Elisha, but she met with the doctor before her. So Elisha’s moved here for less than 2 years, which means she didn’t die here.
I’m guessing there’s something to do with that drug company tho

Everyone seemed to have a memory trigger maybe the whistle was what john needed. But why were the others affected?! Plus alllll of the same questions as stated above! When does season 2 come out?? I hate waiting 🙁
On Netflix on28.11.2017 and 12.09.19 on ABC Australia ( I have seen season 2 already!)
Why wasn’t Elisha harmed when crossing the bridge if she is another reincarnated person? I’m guessing she is not really the person she appears to be, and is another ‘dead’ world inhabitant who came back at will similar to Vic.
My theory on Elisha is that she was never buried.. the others were. So maybe being put in the ground is what makes their connection to that city.
For Vic its interesting that he learned about the Risen hours before dying. Maybe during his death his last thoughts were about the ideal of how unnatural the ideal of coming back from the dead is and that last thought basically became him. Also, Elishia acted surprised that Vic’s leg was healing super fast and yet throughout since Vic’s transformation his head continued to bleed.
I have a hunch that Elishia isn’t a Risen but rather a “doctor” who took her identity to hide whoever this woman pretending to be Elishia really is. It would explain why she wasn’t affect by crossing the bridge. I think Elishia might be an unwitting participant in Noregard’s experiments but she thinks she’s in charge of doing something else. Personally I think she’s a disgraced/criminal doctor, maybe that’s why she’s likes John so much as a hint to the audience.
And has anyone else noticed that Noregard also breaks up to be “No Regard”??
As in “No Regard” for death? Hadn’t caught those hidden words, good catch!
I just recalled the chemical solution Elishia gave Vic is likely what speed up his healing and perhaps whatever “treatments” the doctors performing on Sarah had a similar effect unbeknownst to them when she “died” during her hysterectomy. I can almost guess that she’s going to be quite the antagonist toward Kate in her zombie state since she already had her arrested while alive.
Oh and I don’t think Vic was stronger but rather just has little nerve sensitivity to provide a proper restraint on whatever physical act it was he was doing; as evidence by his delayed forehead pain and when Elishia gave him the hot cup of water, he didn’t flinch for several seconds.
I think Vic was stronger because when he was fighting with John there is a point where he pushes John off of him and John seems to get pushed back a lot farther than normal
I was also thinking of the possibility that Vic maybe came back as the Reaper coming to bring them back
I think Elishia gave him the hot cup of tea to test him and to see if he was the real Vic or not.
He seemed do you have superstrength when he threw off John Doe during their altercation
There’s one thing that doesn’t make sense either. If the doctor’s dead, why doesn’t she bleed when she’s crossing the bridge with Charlie? It seems to me the earlier people died, the longer it takes them to remember their past and it also requires that they encounter a familiar situation, place or object. Kate had just died 2 years ago and the first person she saw was her husband. So her memory came back very quickly. Like Paddy could only remember his wife after finding her dress and he remembered he was murdered by his son after he tried to kill a kid from his family. Also, the fact that Vic died and instantly resurrected might have affected his behavior. Note that he didn’t suffer memory loss like others.
Some great comments here, folks… thank you, all! Especially the bit about why Elishia wasn’t affected near the bridge… can’t believe I missed that one!
We should hopefully have answers next year when Season 2 is released.
I am thinking that there is some entity trying to set things right and when Vic died “it” moved in. And probably the same thing with Sarah.
Glitch has got me hooked too. Its puts me in the fantasy if you got a second chance. But, if I was in the situation where people were coming back to life, no matter who it is, even if it was me I would put a end to them or me. What’s dead should stay dead.
I think that Vic was an angel of some sort that was sent to return the dead to their afterlife. I couldn’t help but notice several times that, after Vic was taken over, he would do something that should be familiar like hold a hot coffee cup but acted as if this was a foreign experience. Whatever is climbing into people’s bodies, it has never lived on Earth before.
I also noticed that Vic was a lot stronger too than normal. He snaps Maria’s neck like it’s a twig, and tosses John aside like he’s a toddler. Vic has had a blow to the head, and could have damage to his temporal lobe which can cause a personality change, maybe this is why he is now so dark. I also wonder if Sarah will “come back” changed.
Thanks to Doug for telling us what the whistle was, I had no idea and the curiosity was killing me. And thanks to Liz for breaking down Noregard to No Regard, good catch!

ahh the dreaded double post ><
I guess Vic was probably possessed by something like the “keeper” of nature, which, like the nature itself, is extremely cruel, systematic, and knows about timing. And to be a keeper of that, one must exceed the boundaries of nature.
And about the cause of death, Kirstie said in one episode that “we’ve all been murdered”. I thought about it, and noticed how Kate kept emphasizing how she remembered being sick, but not the dying part, so there is a possibility that she’s been murdered. And as for Maria, she and her daughter was in the same car, and her daughter was not brought back. It is possible that the car crash wasn’t an accident, and whoever murdered Maria didn’t know her daughter was in the car, so technically, Maria was been murdered, but what happened to her daughter was an accident. It could be Maria’s husband knowingly got her mad, knowing that she’s getting on the car, which he had previously done something to. This might be wrong, since Maria’s already dead, but could be right, because her husband’s still at the nursing center.
Also, at the end of episode 6, James got worried once he heard the doctor said Sarah came back good, and he was obviously not smiling when he saw Sarah’s eyes half opened. I guess he’s calling Kate. It might be Kate’s suicide that has brought Sarah back. After Vic died, Kate became extremely calm, and when she said that she’s going to be alone for a while, it sounded like she’s forgiven James and Sarah, and was a sign of saying goodbye. It is possible that these people are just chosen randomly to be revised by the drug company, or maybe it’s because they came back to stop haunting someone. And Kate realize that she can only die again, but in her own choice now, to make James and Sarah truely move on.
I think they were all murdered.
1. First, let’s start with Kate… Yes, she was sick…bit were are ASSUMING that she actually died of her cancer. Like you said, she remembers the illness…but not her death. Now…Sarah was thoroughly rattled when Kate reappeared…as anyone would be…BUT…I think after the “Holy shit you’ve risen from the dead” shock has passed, it seems as if she is worried…more than just might-lose-her-husband worried…and she indicates that she was attracted to James before Kate died. Then she got REALLY pissed off that Kate slept with *her* husband…and the clencher…she called the police…likely knowing full well that she would essentially “out” Kate in the process.
2. I also agree that Maria could have been murdered. Her brakes could have been cut.
3. When John blows what we now know is a boatswain’s pipe, we only see a tiny PARTIAL glimpse of his death. He (and we) assume he committed suicide, but they did not show what was happening on the ground below him.
4. I also agree that, because Charlie lived during a uhh…less than tolerant time, it is very likely that he was the victim of a hate crime because of his sexuality.
So those are my theories about the possibilities of murders…probably not fully fleshed out…but yeah…
Now, I’m actually in the middle of watching it through a second time. I’m noticing that from the very beginning, Elishia is vvvvvery focused on John…from the moment she finds his grave. I feel like this is a key in some way. She is trying to help (we think) all of them…but she pays particular attention to John (no, pervs, I don’t mean that kind…okay yeah sorta that kind)… She frees him, is attacked by him, but still trusts him. She injects him after he goes bonkers and tries to help Vic get everyone over the bridge to save his life. She sits with him on the bed waiting for him to wake up after. Also…dunno if anyone else picked up on this…and maybe it’s my imagination…he seems to key in on her…possibly vaguely recognizing her?
I really think John is key at this point… Elishia hid the boatswain’s pipe from James… He is the only one who hasn’t retrieved any real memories (except the keyhole glimpse of his death). There’s other stuff I’m sure, but my brain is shutting down. Hehe
Back to Kate, since you ended there… I think that she’s being a good person and a good friend by letting James go to Sarah during labor…and maybe Vic’s last words about her getting sick again have made an impression…but I very much believe that a twist will be revealed in her death…one involving Sarah…
John also died in Elishia’s barn. I think it’s not the first time she revived him.
Maybe that’s why he doesn’t have a headstone, in such a shallow grave, she knew where to look, and she knew who he was and didn’t tell anyone. Buuut that doesn’t explain why the whistle was in the grave. If she didn’t want him to have it then she wouldn’t have given it to him again..
She didn’t give John the whistle though…Vic did.
I like this, Kate totally snuffed out Sarah.
Maria was murdered AFTER she came back from the dead, does that count? Although her husband does have a lot to do with her death.
It also showed Maria after the accident still alive. It never showed her death. Maybe her husband killed her.
Wow! I agree with Aleisha on every count. I also think Vic (is) was death. Reclaiming the souls of the re-born. That’s why he waited so long for the information from the dry cleaners. That’s his job, he waits…
But, if he wants to reclaim them he has to become physical human form, which is why he found the whole experience a little strange. Bless him. 😀
Can’t wait for season 2.
All these questions…
Over here we have been wondering also why there don’t seem to be any real people in that town. There is never any other car around or just people walking by, only empty gardens, empty supermarkets, empty streets… Then there are only some people in the scenes indoors (like in that bar) but only weirdly empty streets, that doctor’s office has no patients, that police station is empty except for those three cops… the school, where John was “found” was empty (only maybe three young people in the background.
It’s like there are only just those people around that immediately play a role (or sometimes some few people out of focus, but there is not once a normal “crowd” anywhere.
Is that normal for a small town in Australia??
I mean, if I was the doctor “gathering data” with the “resurrected” I am keeping secret, why would I do that in daylight – unless I knew nobody would accidently see us?
And why is that town surrounded by water? All exits lead over bridges…
We were wondering here, is the problem they can’t leave, that they can’t cross bridges/water??
Hmm….
A couple of quick notes about your queries on the town from an Australian!
1. The town really is likely to be that empty – poor, rural towns in Australia are pretty dead. Most of this is shot in the daytime too, it can be common to see almost no one on the streets in small, non-tourist towns while everyone’s at work.
2. The water surrounding the town… while this may be a plot point, it’s also really common! Australia is incredibly arid; towns were usually settled where there’s more water. I’ve never even thought about this before, but as you drive through the country and pass in and out of towns, you usually pass over a few low bridges (creeks, streams, rivers) just before entering each town.
3. While Yoorana is an imaginary town, look up the meaning of the word: it’s an Aboriginal house name meaning “loving”. Might be something?
I live ih the town where this series was shot and it is not dead the streets are usually crowded,in fact I have walked past the crew more than once when they are filming and the streets are full of people outside cafes and walking cars driving they either close off the road or section off an area our town is thriving! sure is fun seeing familiar streets on film though
One word. Nano-bots.
Gyeaaaaa love theses shows i wish season would just play on Netflix almost hopefully
Who murderer Kirstie?!? I thought it was going to be Vic.
I don’t think Vic is anyone used to being human. Everything he did seemed like it was done for the first time. He urinated after seeing that guy do it, seemed surprised when the cup burned him, etc. I’m leaning towards angel of death or something.
This has been soooo fun reading the comments. My hubby and I finished the season last night and were wondering “what happened to Glitch”. We think Vic was, somehow, possessed by a “reaper” or “guardian”. Interesting that we missed the tiny Elishia stuff in the first episodes. I really liked the scene where James yells “we’ve done nothing wrong, here!” We weren’t going to finish the series but with the drought of regular season shows on TV during the holidays, we had no choice. Now we are hooked and can’t wait for the second season.
Don’t forget that if Sarah died and came back, she did it out of the town border. The hospital is not in town. More questions: why did vic heal fast but Kristies leg not? And why not vics head? Also, the Noregard suit wasn’t cleaning up the blood, he was taking a sample.
A divine force has arrived to set things straight. Some of the group came from hell, some came from heaven.
Maria is there to confront her ill husband, who got away with murder by cutting the brake lines. Remember, he yells at her “what were you doing with him in THAT CAR.” Maria is from heaven, because God knows she was murdered but man’s laws said otherwise. Her husband is near death but is being reminded that he can’t hide from God’s wrath.
We don’t know why Kirstie was strangled to death or by whom. Somebody was hovering over her and boyfriend’s argument and was there right as she got out of view from her boyfriend. Maybe she is guilty of something already, and the strangler is taking his revenge. I think she came from hell, because that BITE on her leg makes me think demon dog or something almost didn’t let her out, as she was bleeding fresh red blood soon as she came up from the grave.
Elishia has been experimenting with John for awhile. I believe that when John is hanged, it’s not him stepping off a chair, but somebody pulling the trap door. Elishia. That’s why she needs to keep his memories hidden, because John has been a lab rat already, maybe several times. John is her true love that she has been trying to make normal again. It’s all about John.
Because she is tampering with the God’s hand with her experiment, the aforementioned divine force is there to stop her practices.
For Sarah, she somehow killed Kate because she was her close friend and badly wanted her life. For all we know, she is behind Kate being sterile and maybe even the cancer. Maybe Kate wasn’t truly sick but being made to look the part as far as symptoms.
Lots more to come! Can’t wait!
Also…
The car that leaves the cemetery in the opening scene must have been there to pickup the “group”. It looks to be a large suv, large enough to carry the entire group back to Noregard Pharmaceuticals, which is where they were likely intending to go until they had to flee when they saw Bo. The barn was a damage control contingency plan I believe, once James arrived on scene. Elishia was on scene immediately and was surprisingly calm about the ordeal that was unfolding.
OR…
This “group” is just one of many that weren’t able to travel very far after revival from the “Lazarus-Like” drug that NoRegard Pharm is experimenting with. They could be plucking random people out of that cemetery to use as test subjects, injecting their corpse with this “super healing” (think Vic’s leg wound healing rapidly after she injected him with whatever), Lazarus drug, then putting them back but only burying them a couple feet down under loose dirt. Perhaps their latest phase of testing was to prove that no matter what stage of decomposition they were dealing with (the age of the corpse), that the drug would rapidly regenerate tissue cells and start firing the brain again in the same turnaround time. I mean seriously…if this is the “ass end of the world” as Beau says, then why would a massive Pharmaceutical Company be located there? When Carlo is found by Vic whilst trying to climb the gate…you see just how massive Noregard campus/building is.
Maybe there is nothing divine at all, and it’s just mad scientist’s that have NoRegard for human life/death.
There are a ton of questions left open. One thing I haven’t seen anyone say but that I thought was that the bar is somehow connected. Each of them seem to have some connection to that bar. Paddy is the first one to see it in town, Charlie and Kristie both drank there. I’m sure the others will have a connection to it as well. I’m not sure what it means, but it has come up multiple times. I really wonder about the whistle, it seemed to affect them all and the doctor obviously knew it was important. And why was it in John’s grave but all of them heard it? Maybe the person who said John has been back multiple times is right.
The “whistle” is a Boatswain’s Call, which is pronounced as Bosun’s Call (and usually written that way in non-official settings). Except it doesn’t sound like a Bosun’s Call. It sounds as if it’s the All Hands on Deck played on a messed up call, but slowly. And he doesn’t hold it right, but I don’t know if that’s intentional for the plot or just no one showed the actor how to hold it. That hand position doesn’t explain why it sounds so unlike a real Bosun’s Call.
It certainly got everyone’s attention, but the only one of the other three who may be accustomed to it is Charlie, and that only if he hung out with some Navy types while in the service. He was definitely not Navy. But Paddy heard it and he was all the way over at the school and natural sound couldn’t have carried that far so I’m assuming the different sound is intentional.
John is obviously a big part of the story, albeit an unwitting one. As soon as Eliesha told James “it’s just a hole” after pulling out the Bosun’s Call (it seemed almost as if she was looking for it) I knew she was some part of what was going on. I assumed it was someone she had buried there herself. There was no reason for her to go over to that area since they were checking graves and no marked graves were in that area. She walked directly to it.
I’m curious about the shots of lights in the beginning that browned out for a moment, surrounded by many others that didn’t flicker at all. And was the dog that suddenly went mad and killed sheep somehow affected by whatever happened? And Beau didn’t call the cops so it had to be whoever was in the SUV that called, so whoever had a hand in it wanted the cops involved. Considering one was James’s wife, they probably wanted him specifically involved. And speaking of dog’s, that wasn’t a dog bite mark on Kirstie’s leg. That definitely a human bite mark. But someone with a big mouth. Of course, it only seems to be on the one side of her leg so I don’t know how anyone or anything could have left such solid marks and damage on only the one side of her leg.
So many questions! Thanks for writing this—it’s at least good to know I’m not the only one wondering what the heck is going on.
Was it the rs car at the beginning when Beau was entering the graveyard ?????? Any ideas ?????
Was it the doctors car at the beginning when Beau was entering the graveyard ?????? Any ideas ?????
About that bar thing I was thinking the same! During the season I thought that they were indeed all linked with eachother. Like James said. So I was searching for that one thing that connected them but there was not one like the bar. There were many(can’t name them all). The bar, the baby possibly, age (like charlie and kirstie are about the same age, john and paddy are really old, maria is just random in between. Maybe linked with carlos (because of the language) and then the younger generation. Sarah, Kate, elashia (I really can’t spell that right sorry). I think that there is one big storyline throughout history that connects them all. They are talking about a theory that they resurrected to finish something but there is no clear link. Another thing. I wish they would have told more about carlos it’s a bit vague now. I thought he was going to play a big role but then he suddenly died. ? I think he is going to come back in the story.
I am confused. Earlier I’m sure that Paddy remembered being killed by Kalinda’s fiance. Then in the last episode he remembers being killed by his son.
You make some great points, things I wondered about too! Also, Why is Charlie still dirty?! I’m loving this show! reminds me of LOST!
Did anyone else think it was strange that John’s flashback to hanging was in the same barn, at Elisha’s place? And he said, at that time he remembered wanting to die. Maybe he was purposefully escaping by killing himself…but she couldn’t handle being without him and brought him back selfishly. John also said to her “you had no right to bring me back.” I think the whole story is definitely centered around them!
Elisha said to the others, it was here aunt and uncles’ place. More to speculate about…
My question is: When is Charlie going to wash? There is still dirt on his ears and under his fingernails!
I saw this comment on another site about show and am copying & pasing. It’s an intriguing thought->
“I think they were literally planted in the cemetery by someone who wanted it to appear as if they were returned from the dead, to direct suspicion away from Noregard. They probably have some kind of GPS device implanted in their bodies that is capable of killing them if they wander too far away from town. That would allow Noregard to monitor them while they go about their lives unaware that they are living experiments.”
What about that laidy that Victor slept with in the motel? She wasn’t his wife.
Who is Carol (?) that called him on his cellphone?
Does Cris (the policeofficer) know about everything? He put Kate in a cell.
I think it’s interesting that it’s a boatswain’s whistle. In Greek mythology, it’s a boat that ferries the dead across the River Styx.
It was a volvo station wagon dark blue or black in the beginning roaring away from the cemetery (more than likely the doctors car),
There was grafiti on the young strangling victims grave, it said SLUT,
The guy they called John Doe didn’t dig himself out of his grave till the next morning. I think this was because the doctor placed him there, then injected him right before Bo showed up on his bike. Why was Bo there anyways?
Why did the doctor have 6 blankets in her car, when James called for the ambulance and backup he had only seen 3-4 people moving around in the graveyard and never stated how many there were.
I believe the whistle was used to wake them up after they were given whatever medicine regenerated them – due to their reaction when John Doe blew it. I also believe that they were grown from DNA in a lab and placed in the graves. How else can you explain how after a double mastectomy James dead wife Kate shows up intact? Later in episode 6 (I belive) they show an employee of Noregard getting a blood sample from Vic’s death, probably to regrow the body and bring him back in the next season. How did the company know where to collect the sample from? Probably from the doctor who said that they work for her.
The doctor seems to be totally intent on John Doe, why would she sleep with him after he really tried to strangle her? It seemed to me that he wanted to hurt her specifically and there was the why did you bring me back line he said to her. It could have meant on the bridge or from death as it looked like her barn he was hung in. We still don’t know the circumstances surrounding his hanging, was it suicide or murder or was it capital punishment.
John Doe has whip or lash marks on his back, was he a British prisoner sentenced to Austrailia for a crime back in the 1700’s? If he is a more recent deceased how did he get the scars on his back?
Let us go back to episode one and the dog who went crazy and killed a couple of lambs, could that have been because of the whistle used to wake the dead?
In the first episode Vic had just left the cemetary and just happened to be at Noregard at the same time Carlo shows up and tries to climb the fence? Was he trying to get back to the building where he was grown? (My dna clone theory) My thoughts on this are that Vic is either a dna clone working for the company or totally against what is going on and hanging around trying to put a stop to these experiments. (Like the others he remembers about his past after the accident, his death and resurection). We don’t see much of Vic at the beginning but after he finds out about the cemetary he won’t leave town and after the accident he doesn’t call his wife (reference the call on his cell from the woman he sleeps with at the motel) he seems to be rebuilding his memory (he forgot how to pee, he suddenly remembers that he cares for the woman after she touches his face, he doesn’t know coffee is hot) and why is his car towed to the company after the accident? Was it because the company is cleaning things up or because the car was registered to the company?
Oh, I almost forgot… why did the first Mayor have 2 different memories of being murdered? First he remembered being clubbed to death by the aborigine boyfriend/husband of his beloved (who sewed his last will into her dress) and then he remembered his son slicing his throat at dinner.
This is just how my mind works, let me know if I missed something crucial.
I think the real question is will this show end up staying a fantasy type show or move into the more science fiction realm
and you touched upon the bodies being placed there, thats why there weren’t graves and they were buried shallow enough to claw to the surface.
With regards to john doe. The doctor takes him to the museum where tthe plaster cast of his (and 2 others) were in that display case. The doctor then tells him thats him (but never says his name) and that the he (not exactly sure on exact wording) but basically that they were convicts who turned into bush rangers, were caught and what happened was brutal. But no records of death or names. So the next question is how did the doctor know it was him or to look there?????
Did it break anyone elses heart a little with look on leons face when maria said she would bring anna back but then she died (again) and now leon will just be waiting not knowing (though does have dementia so he wont remember for long maybe but still . . . 🙁 )
I think with the mayors 2 deaths that he isnt remembering dying. He was bashed by the other guy for no reason up until that point (he speaks aboriginal and no translation) thats why he asked bos grandma (??) What those words meant (that the aboriginal guy said) but it was over calinda (unsure on spelling) as she was promised to someone else.
My theory about why them (but paddy is the exception) is that in some way they all wanted to die. John does look on his face as he was about to be hung looked more relief to me than scared. Kate had cancer and said to james that she should have fought harder. Charlies (with what little they have shown) implies he commited suicide, the ultimate wanting to die. Need more info on the others though.
What i really want to know is if that was really them (their original bodies) this is more for the 2 yr dead person (kate) why did they ALL come out of the graves butt naked?? Surely on kate there would have been at least bits of clothes hanging off her. And how did the one person (im not sure whos grave it was) get through the concrete cover that was over the grave?? Or did it just look like chunks of concrete?
With no regard. Thats what bought me here was if anyone else picked it up and if it was intentionallay meant to look like no regard . . . I do however find that a VERY fitting name for a pharma company though hahahahhaha
when does season 2 start because its been like 2 years since season one?
Delightful commentary.
I finished S1 a few days ago. I think the inhabitant of Vic (and now Sarah) used to also inhabit John. Whatever that thing is connects the three of them (they are the Grim Reaper in the flesh). Elisha knows this somehow, which is why she worked so hard on Vic to repair his broken leg.
All of them have some connection to both Noregard AND the town bar. We’ve already seen Paddy, Kirsten and Charlie’s story play out there in flashbacks.
I found myself torn between Kate and Sarah. 😀
Maybe the Drug Company is choosing people and they killed Kate? cuz the whole “we’ve all been murdered” thing
its weird that kate is the only one with someone shes knows still alive
and why does it seem like the doctor is in love with John? She knows him very well. could it be possible that these people will keep dying and coming back? Vic knew what he was talking about, so maybe this has happened before? maybe some of these people keep coming back but don’t remember that they have?
In the first episode we see Vic get a bottle of Olive Oil from the deputy (Chris). Vic then becomes a ‘sort-of’ dead. In the 6th episode we see Sarah get a bottle of Olive Oil from Chris and now it appears that she is ‘sort-of’ dead. I think that there is some significance to this.
Oops…sorry. Sarah gets her olive oil in episode 5
I have just finish that series, but could they just be ‘obsessed’ by the last thing they where thinking about right before they died?
-Maria thinking her name was Anna(she cause the accident) and if she has cheating her husband or not(think she were thinking before get distract) .
-Vic thinking that life afterdeath is not normal when he got is accident.
-John Doe suffer a lot of violence before he died. (and have so much anger)
-Mayor, with his mistress, trying so hard to get back that stupid dress back
My guess for the next season is that Sarah will try get ride of Kate to keep her husband and will be so much freak with her baby.
I realy think its a side effect if you are bring back to life.
Super late to this discussion but I second/third the notion that Vic is the angel of death / reaper. When they walked into the nursing home someone there noticed him and said “you’re early?”.
I have only seen this series once so far but did anyone else notice that every one kept asking WHY they were here but noone phrased it as how did we get here. Feel like thats a big hint that those particular people are there for a reason, beyond random selection of the risen.
Elisha was driving the car in the beginning of episode 1…the one that Beau saw as he was peddling toward the cemetery. This car quickly drives away from the scene. She was there because she is the one who woke the dead. Later Elisha arrives back at the cemetery to help James (driving the same car). Notice that she arrives with blankets in the car before James sent the call that naked people were at the cemetery and he needed backup. She knew that the naked people would be there because she brought them back.
Elisha invented the drug that brings people back form the dead. Four years before, she tested it on herself and it was a success. Noregard set her up as a doctor in small isolated town of Yoorana to help them continue their research. The entire event, the seven people coming back from the dead, is simply controlled test of not only the effectiveness of the drug, but the ramifications on society if the dead came back. I say controlled test because the version of the drug that Noregard used in Yoorana had a failsafe built into it. If anyone who was brought back with this version of the drug came close to a specific frequency, the drug is immediately counteracted. Prior to the test, Noregard placed a ring of underground cable around the town of Yoorana to keep the test contained. That is why Elisha wasn’t effected by crossing the bridge. She was brought back with a version of the drug without the failsafe built in. Also, remember in the beginning of episode 1 when there seemed to be electric issues causing lights to flash in the town. That was Noregard turning on the cable ring as the test started.
Vic of course is not like the others. He wasn’t brought back by the drug. He was killed by death so that death could inhabit his body in an attempt to stop Noregard and Alisha from testing and using the drug. The best evidence we see that Vic is not like the others is that his head is injured in the car crash and it continues to bleed throughout the show. If he came back like the others he would be healed.
Noregard has been watching all of the events happening in Yoorana via cameras hidden around the town. They are seeing and controlling everything. They know about Vic’s accident and know that he seems to have come back to life without the aid of their drug. They are very interested in who he is, that is why his wrecked car was at the Noregard facility. And, that is why the Noregard employee took a sample of his blood from the bridge where James killed him.
Now, as far as why these seven people were picked to come back….Elisha was supposed to bring back only six individuals that were handpicked by Noregard to test the emotional responses of the already living. In the two years that Elisha was living in Yoorana though, she saw John’s death mask in the town museum and fell in love with him. She found out where he was buried and also brought him back. She did this in order to have someone close to her who knows what it is like to return from the dead. She also didn’t use the failsafe version of the drug on him. He can leave Yoorana. If Elisha hadn’t injected John with a syringe to knock him out when he tried to cross the bridge, he would have crossed successfully and everyone would have known he was different. That’s why Vic/death said John was different and stronger, because he knew that John was able to leave Yoorana.
By the way, Sarah is not death now. She simply had a close call while giving birth. Death will return in season two though as a new character.
Wow Max! Are you one of the writters of the show? or a detective? I am starting season 2 right now and thanks to your post I will look at it with another eyes, Thanks.
Ps. Do you remember when Kate asked Chris to call her mom? that her mom told that Sean broke up wiith a girl named Elka who was from Norway? Do you think it has to do with what is happening in Yoorana as she could be another scientific from Noregard living there at that time?
Series 2 now showing in Australia. Great follow on.
Some questions answered, but many more questions generated.
Episode 6 most interesting ending – many new directions for Series 3
I believe that is not a dog whistle but a ‘bosuns pipe.. like used to ‘pipe’ someone on board a ship.. not to be picky
It seems like it’s alla bout the frequency…
