"Worlds Finest" -- Kara gains a new ally when the lightning-fast superhero The Flash suddenly appears from an alternate universe and helps Kara battle Siobhan, aka Silver Banshee, and Livewire in exchange for her help in finding a way to return him home, on SUPERGIRL, Monday, March 28 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Joey: I don’t usually comment on Supergirl. The reason for that is because I haven’t watched an episode of the show until this week. That’s not any sort of commentary on the quality of the show (how can I comment on such when I haven’t watched it) but a commentary on how busy my life is. The reason I made an exception this week is because of the Supergirl/The Flash crossover. Based on the ratings boost, it doesn’t look like I was the only one.

So, let’s start off by addressing the elephant in the room first, shall we? Did Barry steal those ice cream cones?

Corrina: Hmm… probably. But maybe he made up for it by helping the ice cream vendor with his order. A better question: how come the ice cream doesn’t melt from the friction when Barry runs?

Lisa: Forget melting ice cream. I still don’t understand why people who are plummeting to their death aren’t broken in half when Barry catches them mid-air.

Corrina: That’s easy. You have to keep the speed consistent. Barry doesn’t so much catch them while they’re falling as put his arms around them, match his speed to theirs, and basically run down the side of the building, coming to a gradual stop.

I wish it were easy to explain all the plot issues on the Berlanti shows this way.

Lisa: Berlanti doesn’t need plot! Or continuity! That would be hard…

Joey: Greater suspension of disbelief–Calista Flockhart gonna put away a 12-pack o’ cupcakes all by herself.

Corrina: She doesn’t have to eat them all. She can taste each one. She can afford to buy a dozen just to taste the different kinds.

Lisa: Girlfriend gets high off the cupcake fumes. But how cute was her advice to Kara about James? I really love the relationship that has developed between Cat and Kara/Supergirl. Bitchy though she may be, at this point Cat does seem to care for Kara/Supergirl. And while she’s not a consistent feminist voice, I do like where they are heading with Cat.

Corrina: How come Barry is smarter on Supergirl than his own show? Without spoiling The Flash, that show consisted of this:

Everyone: Don’t do the thing!

Barry: Does the thing. Turns out badly.

Here, though, Barry is the voice of reason and the experienced superhero. Maybe this was an alternate universe Barry too who got mixed up with our Barry?

Joey: Smart Barry still throws lightning at Livewire, so how smart can he really be. (Aside: My Livewire will always be Lori Petty.)

Corrina: Does Cat know that Kara is Supergirl? Supergirl faked out Cat with the classic body double, but, given how quick she figured out Barry was the Flash, it seems clear that Cat has decided that Kara is Supergirl after all and is keeping quiet. Why?

  1. Barry has to be the worst time- and dimension-traveller ever. On Earth-2, Wells told him not to allow himself to be amotionally entangled, and he did, and now heagain went and did everything he shouldn’t have. So far all we’ve seen is Hartley back and as a friend, but I think this opens a window for the writers to come up with anything they need… Well done Barry! 🙂
