I’m giggling so hard I’m giddy! Okay, enough of the super-fan. Magic: The Gathering, property of Hasbro and iconic trading card game, is now slotted to be a Twentieth Century Fox film franchise. Wizards of the Coast recently made the official press release, and fans all over the world are already anxious to see what happens next.
Simon Kinberg, writer and director, known for his work in the X-Men franchise, and 2009’s Sherlock Holmes, will be the creative lead of this endeavor. He will, of course, be working closely with Hasbro’s creative team.
It’s very exciting to think about which of the many story-lines from the franchise will be followed. My personal hope is that we will get a film about Garruk or Sorin. I know there are many other Planeswalkers with great stories, but they are my favorites. Garruk is the epitome of power, slaying and dominating across every plane he sets foot on. And Sorin? He set up his own religion, which protected an entire plane (Innistrad) through sheer faith.
Some of the Duel Deck story lines might be fun as well, Garruk vs. Lilliana comes to mind. That’s a conflict that has spanned many realms. Of course, Venser vs. Koth was another epic adventure, and you never know who you should root for, so plenty of room for twists in that story.
At this point, fans can only wait eagerly for the next press release. Stay tuned!
If they don’t do the Urza saga, heads will roll. There is no greater story that needs a big screen movie or miniseries.
Amen. I’d love to see Urza Saga: Artifacts Cycle. The book was awesome.
You guys are clearly forgetting MTG’s golden child: Jace. This movie will be about him. No doubt!
