Although the film’s premiere is still several months away, a new trailer for Disney’s John Carter was released yesterday, and it’s looking good. Based on A Princess of Mars — the first book of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s John Carter of Mars series — it is the story of an Earth man mysteriously transported to Mars, where he finds a fantastic, but disintegrating, culture.
Written in 1911,the John Carter books have always been a geek favorite. Although overshadowed by Burroughs’s other popular series, Tarzan, the stories influence has echoed through the years in everything from Flash Gordon to DC Comics’ Adam Strange to the more recent Avatar.
The movie will be released 9 March 2012, and is reported to be the most expensive movie Disney has ever made. Here’s hoping that it will be money well spent.
