There were some spectacular answers to this week’s puzzle, including the quote from Jim: “Printed by dad, solved on paper by son, redone in color on PhotoShop by son.” That, in short, is why we write and read at GeekDad. Cheers, Jim for making my day.
Also notable was possibly the geekiest thing I’ve ever seen (said with admiration). Solved as follows by Marius:
• I corrected your maze because some walls had little gaps by
expanding them and adding final touches by hand. (result: cor.jpg)
• Using GIS software i calculated cost-distance and cost-direction
maps of your maze. (results: cost_distance.jpg and cost_direction.jpg)
• Using the same software and thous [sic] maps I calculated shortest-path.
(result: path.jpg)
• Then combined the path with maze to get the final result path_on_maze.jpg
The result is below — notice that not only is the solution correct, but even within the boundaries of walls, the paths are optimized. Word up. That rocks.
But the winner of the randomly selected $50.00 ThinkGeek gift certificate is…Shane! Just for showing up, you get a discount code good for $10.00 off your next $50.00 order at ThinkGeek. Use code GEEKDAD59MJ
Tune in Monday for another installment of POW, straight from Dave. Thanks for your work on this and all puzzles—we at GeekDad enjoy checking out your answers as much as we enjoy writing the geekery. Good stuff.
