DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: The Metal Legion #4 – Ian Flynn, Writer; Adam Bryce Thomas, Artist; Matt Herms, Colorist
Ray – 8.5/10
Ray: This continues to be a great crossover packed with action, although it’s much more of a battle-oriented story than the first volume was. After betrayals back and forth between Eggman and the Legion of Doom in the last few issues, Eggman now has a powersuit of his own and has unleashed his own Metal Legion on the League – consisting of robots infused with the powers of his former allies. The heroes and their furry counterparts quickly get overwhelmed, but are able to turn the table once they figure out that they need to switch partners. Each robot is tailored to one hero – and they fall apart once they’re faced with a new opponent. Luthor and Eggman have been trading off the main villain role in this series, but it’s really Rouge and Selina who keep stealing the show every time they appear – as well as anything else that isn’t bolted down. Keep these series coming, please.
100 Bullets: The US of Anger #2 – Brian Azzarello, Writer; Eduardo Risso, Artist
Ray – 9/10
Ray: This continues to be one of the most exceptionally crafted books on the stands, as Azzarello and Risso return to one of the grittiest crime dramas the comic industry has ever seen. This issue returns to the larger cast of the first series, as several main players all converge around a funeral. The deceased wasn’t a good guy, as is usually the case in this series, but there are still a lot of mixed feelings around his passing. After the first issue, which treated Lono more like a predatory animal inserting himself into a hunt in the middle of a national crisis, this issue sets up the larger plots while still giving him the chance to be as intimidating as he usually is. It feels like this issue was getting all the players into place for an explosive showdown in the coming issues, and even if you’re not caught up with the series, Risso’s art is worth the price of admission alone.
