One of our favorite board game table manufacturers, Game Theory Tables, is back in crowdfunding with another exciting addition to their line. Last year saw their debut of the first officially licensed Dungeons & Dragons game table. And prior to that, they came out with an updated version of their classic Origins game table with the Origins LIT 2.0, which I reviewed last Spring. And don’t forget the Arena table, with its high resolution touch screen embedded right into the table.
With all of these options, you might be thinking, where could they go next? Well, with their latest Kickstarter campaign, they’re adding a foldable, portable game table into the mix. Let’s take a look at what’s on offer during this campaign:
What Is The Game Theory Tables Nomad Campaign?
Much like some of Game Theory Tables’ other Kickstarter campaigns, the Nomad campaign actually encompasses several tables. In this particular case, all of the game tables are foldable and portable. Discounted Kickstarter prices for the tables range from $1,279 for the smallest table, up to $2,079 for the largest. It’s currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, and for anyone that backs within the first 24 hours, you will also receive an Exclusive Nomad Founder’s Signature Mat ($89 value).

Additionally, the campaign will offer 20% off of table accessories. And as with all of the tables Game Theory offers, you will be able to choose from multiple finishes.

Apex Kinetic Frame
The Apex Kinetic Frame is what supports all of the Nomad series tables. It is a heavy-duty, high-tensile steel chassis engineered to support 500lb+ with zero wobble.
● The Apex Kinetic Frame: A proprietary, heavy-duty engineering marvel that provides rock-solid stability during gameplay but allows the table to be folded and stowed in just 2 seconds.
● Uncompromising Materials: The Nomad uses the exact same premium materials, construction techniques, and features as Game Theory Tables’ highest-rated permanent tables.
● The Performance Gap: The Nomad delivers $5,000-tier performance at a fraction of the cost. These savings are achieved through Logistics Innovation, not material reductions.

The Nomad Origins/Max/War
Basically a folding version of the flagship Origins game table, the Nomad comes in 3 different sizes.

The Origins, with a playing surface of 61″x37″ and a 4″ vault, is designed largely for board games, and seats 6-8 players. The Max, with its 76″x35″ play area, seats 8-10 players and is perfect not just for board games, but especially tabletop roleplaying games. And finally, the War, with its 76″x48″ playing surface, is geared towards wargames, and can accomodate up to 12 players.
These tables all feature a magnetic rail system like the Origins 2, have built-in cupholders, and can use all of the same accessories as the Origins table line.
Nomad TCG/TCG Max
For the trading card game players, these are designed specifically for standard TCG (trading card game) playmats. These tables feature customized rails, cupholders and plenty of space for deck boxes, card displays, and life counters. And taking a nod from poker tables, they also feature premium, casino grade (customizable) armrests.

The Nomad TCG table is optimized for 4 players, with 4 cupholders and a 61″x27″ playing surface. The Nomad TCG Max is built to accomodate 6 players, with 8 cupholders and a 80″x27″ playing surface.
Nomad Poker Round/Poker Oval
Before Game Theory Tables started making board gaming tables, their parent company, BBO Poker Tables, was making tournament-quality poker tables. These folding tables, built to casino-grade specs, feature premium vinyl armrests, proprietary dynamic gaming suede layouts, and built-in stainless steel cupholders.

Why You Should Back The Nomad Portable Smart Fold Line Campaign
This is a very interesting campaign, not just because all of the tables can fold. This is also the first Game Theory Tables campaign that features tables geared specifically for both trading card games and poker. And because of the foldable and portable nature of the tables, you could conceivably have a board game table set up in a room, and then quickly fold up that table, wheel it to the side, and then set up a table for poker night. There are a lot of possibilities.
But even if you only play one type of table game, you may not have space for a dedicated game room in your home. A folding table will allow you to set the table up just for your game night, and then move it out of the way when it’s not in use.
As with all of Game Theory Tables’ crowdfunding campaigns, the best prices are always available during the campaign rather than waiting for retail. With this campaign, it’s a 20% reduction from the retail cost, so well worth it to back. Additionally, there’s that day one bonus of an exclusive Nomad Founder’s signature playmat.
While I haven’t had any hands-on experience yet with the Nomad line, I have now owned two different Origins game tables, and have also played on the Arena table. Game Theory Tables makes rock-solid gaming tables with a variety of available accessories, and it’s always been a delight to play a game on one.
