Kids, especially boys, inherently like danger. They crave it. If there is something they can climb and jump off of, (hopefully not plummeting to their doom) they’ll do it. Sometimes I like to feed that impulse—but in a controlled environment.
In that vein, I took the kids to an Indoor Rock Climbing gym. They grumbled about being harnessed in for the big walls (again, they wanted more danger) until I reminded them that they harness in athletes on American Ninja Warrior as well. After getting the safety information, they scaled up the walls like they were in Cliffhanger. It was a great time that gave us a new activity in the arsenal to do on those rare occasions we have no other plans. Plus, it was so physically active they were somewhat exhausted for the rest of the day.
