There’s No Place Like Disneyland for the Holidays

Disneyland holidays 2017

Let’s be honest, the holidays are, hopefully, a special time for most people regardless of where they are celebrated. Also, Disneyland is pretty magical no matter when you visit. So why, then, does my family love Disneyland holidays so much?

Haven’t you ever had chocolate get in your peanut butter (or vice versa)? Disneyland holidays are two things that go great together.

Disneyland holidays are turned to 11. Here are a few of the seasonal changes throughout the Disneyland Resort that you can expect this year:

Disneyland Park Holidays

It may be a small world, but 50,000 lights on the facade of “It’s a Small World” Holiday, plus advanced 3D-projection technology on the clock with gears and springs pulling back to reveal a world of holiday wonders, sounds pretty big.

The inside is decorated, too, but the music of “It’s a Small World,” you know what I’m talking about, remains; however, throughout the classic tune you’ll hear holiday favorites “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls.”

Festival of Holidays is back with the seasonal sights, sounds, and tastes of diverse cultural festivities inspired by Christmas/Navidad, Hanukkah, Diwali, Kwanzaa, and Three Kings Day. The lineup of entertainment includes special Disney characters, cavalcades, and performing ensembles.

Everyone, but especially Disney, knows that a theme park visitor travels on their stomach, so guests can pick up a Festival of Holidays Tasting Passport at any of the Festive Foods Marketplace kiosks and receive stamps as they taste their way through the unique cuisines. Guests who collect all the marketplace stamps will receive a special completion stamp, that I assume you cannot eat.

Plus, Santa (I KNOW HIM)!

Staying on property for your Disneyland holidays makes the whole experience even more immersive. Perks include extra magic hour benefits (an extra hour in a specified park not open to general ticket holders), use of the pool(s), the ability to have purchases sent to your room, and, of course, naps. I’m also partial to not having to drive anywhere as Disney California Adventure Park, the Disneyland Resort hotels, and various locations in Downtown Disney all sell alcohol, and that probably deserves its own post.

This year, according to Disney, “the Craftsman-inspired décor at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa (below) extends to the holiday decorations—from garland infused with natural materials to the soaring Christmas tree lit with ‘arts and crafts’ motif lanterns. The midcentury Disneyland Hotel receives a retro-holiday makeover with silver trees and bright colors. And the nautical-themed Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel features blue, green and silver holiday décor—along with shells and starfish garland—capturing a beachy Christmas setting.”

Also, carolers, and who doesn’t like that?

Basically, if you’re like my family, Disney and the holidays both have that special kind of feeling that lets you forget about all of the things that stink in the world, of which there are many, and lose yourself in wonder. Disneyland holidays make the season seem exactly like we wish it would, and if that isn’t the merriest place on Earth, then I don’t know what is.

While you’re celebrating your Disneyland holidays, don’t forget to check out the new additions to Star Tours, featuring scenes from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as well as the new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!

The holiday season at Disneyland Resort runs through January 7, 2018.
