Today, we’re absolutely thrilled to bring your our conversation with Janina Gavankar, who is currently having a bit of a moment with the release of Star Wars Battlefront II. In the game, she portrays the main character, Imperial Commander Iden Versio.

For the role, Gavankar not only provided the voice work but also did the motion-capture performance. And Versio looks exactly likes her. In fact, you might as well be playing Gavankar in the game–it’s that realistic. Understandably, she’s been on Cloud 9 for a few months in the run-up to the game’s release. Can you blame her? Imagine starring in YOUR very own Star Wars story.

Gavankar is no stranger to the spotlight, though. She’s had regular roles on The L Word, True Blood, The League, Arrow, and Sleepy Hollow, among a bunch of others. In addition to her performance in Battlefront II, she also narrates the audiobook version of Christie Golden’s Inferno Squad (as well as Adam Christopher’s “End of Watch” in From a Certain Point of View). And we’re all the richer for it.

On this episode, we talk about her time as a bank geek, playing in the Star Wars universe, connecting to and developing a brand-new character, the struggle to be creative, and the roadblocks she’s encountered on her road to success.
