Once upon a time there was a little boy named Damian, and he wanted, more than anything else, to be the Godfather of Nerdcore Hip-Hop. Okay, I may’ve made up that backstory whole-cloth, but that is what happened. Damian Hess is MC Frontalot, and MC Frontalot is Damian Hess, and both of them have just released a brand new album for the whole famn damily.
It is entitled Question Bedtime, and across its 14 tracks Front brings in a veritable menagerie of special guests including names you know — Adam WarRock, Parry Gripp, Marian Call — and names you ought to know — Kid Koala, Busdriver, Jean Grae. This kid-friendly affair centers musically on fairytales and classic folk yarns, and interspersed amongst the tracks are the equally classic hippity-hop skits wherein Frontalot tries to soothe some of your favorite comedians into a restful slumber.
It’s available now from iTunes, Amazon, Bandcamp and all those other places — and, I’ll wager, it’s destined to be the only kids’ album in your collection that includes both amazing cover art by the legendary Bill Sienkiewicz and an adaptation of a Native American tale explaining the development of the human anus.
