As my third week in Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf Mayor Program winds to a close, I’m struck by how different the hamlet of Muswell looks since my unceremonious appointment late last month. It was a quaint and welcoming town, for sure, but under my guidance it has seen an explosion in commerce, exciting new variety in its agriculture and even a burgeoning local night life. Truly there is a turtle-powered boat in every dock and a chicken in every pot—I mean house.
I’m still updating my personal Twitter feed with daily snapshots of the goings-on in my Animal Crossing town, but you can peep this week’s highlights below.
I was pleased to discover that even the local museum sought an upgrade.
With Nookling Junction now T & T Mart, I have access to two fortune cookie items per day.
Pietro the clown sheep recently left Muswell. (Good riddance, you walking nightmare!)
Katrina the fortune teller finally made an appearance. Her prognostications are as perplexing as ever.
Looks like folks are actually visiting my dream town!
Finally that enormous sewing machine is explained.
There are actually two different islands (or rather two different versions of your town’s island) that you can visit; one if just for you and any in-town guests, while the other is available to other gamers with which you can play and interact online.
The museum’s second floor houses a gift shop and special exhibit space that you can rent.
It stocks the silver shovel once you’ve donated 15 fossils.
Refreshing your town’s dream at the Dream Suite is another daily source of income.
Avid anglers can also unlock the silver fishing rod.
Shrunk has secured regular nighttime entertainment.
KK is back to once again rock the proverbial house.
Lots of different animal species are represented in New Leaf; my newest citizen is a flamingo.
If you feed Shrunk fruit he will regale you with his old comedy bits. Or not.
Sometimes you have to take the big fashion risks; weirdly, this one literally made me run like a girl.
