With the new updates to the LetterBox app that means you can record audio while you sketch and doodle your messages, it is fast becoming the best way for children to keep in touch while on the go.

What’s more, it offers an environmentally friendly alternative from using dead-tree-based products to send messages from far flung shores. I put it to the test by taking the 3DSs on our recent trip to New Zealand. It worked out better than I expected. Oh, and we played some games on it too.

We’ll certainly be taking our 3DSs on the road with us on our next trip. You can get the Letterbox app for free from the 3DS eShop.

  1. Anything that makes that particular chore cheaper and easier is fine by me! When I took my DSi XL out at in the ER where I worked one very slow night (We hadn’t had a patient in hours!) I got some askance looks until I showed them all the great features like the audio recorder/ editor and the photo fun editor. You would not believe the fun a bunch of middle aged nurses can have if they stop thinking of a thing as a ‘kids toy’. Lots of love for all the great features on the DS series.
