Microcontroller geeks can now pre-order the Stellaris LM4F120 LaunchPad for $5 — yes, I said $5. The LM4F120 is an new ARM Cortex M4 based microcontroller from Texas Instruments. The new Launchpad ships with a surface mount LM4F120H5QR pre-installed on the board. The chip has 256KB of flash memory, 32KB of SRAM, 12 ADC ports, up to 43 GPIO ports and a large list of supported interfaces. The Launchpad comes with a built in programmer, two buttons, and an RGB LED. I’m most interested in the on-chip USB On-The-Go implementation. This could allow a robot to be both a device for programming, and a host for sensors, peripherals, or control.

For more information check out Texas Instrument’s site: Stellaris LM4F120 LaunchPad

Pre-order now for $5 and shipping is free. This is a limited time promotional offer, but the boards won’t ship for almost 4 weeks so you may want to add some patience to your order. I didn’t see any mention of how long the offer will last, or what the price will be after it is over.
