It appears the archery craze will continue in the fall on television, as the CW has ordered a full season of Arrow, a television show starring Green Arrow, DC Comic’s Emerald Archer.

The cast includes Green Arrow’s longtime love interest and former Bird of Prey, Black Canary, though her character is named Laurel Lance, not Dinah Lance, in this version. Those hoping for more of Justin Hartley’s Green Arrow from Smallville will be disappointed as this is an entirely new take on millionaire archer Oliver Queen. It appears that his origin of being stranded on a remote island is in place but when he returns, he returns to a family who’s thought him long dead.

While I’m thrilled to see the inclusion of Laurel Lance, so far she’s also a different take on the Black Canary character. But then, there have been a number of Black Canaries since the Golden Age of comics. Here’s hoping this one will be a worthy addition.

And I also hope that the show has an excellent archery consultant, else GeekDad’s resident archer, Jim MacQuarrie, may have to be busy again.
