That international cadre of chip musicians at netlabel Pterodactyl Squad has done it again; they’ve just released the spiritual successor to their wildly popular 8-bit Weezer tribute, The Dark Side of the Moon – The 8-bit Album.
Those in the know will recognize this as the second such lo-fi electronic tribute to the Pink Floyd classic in recent memory (the first being 2010′s MOON8), but Pterodactyl Squad’s offering boasts an interesting new twist. Rather than a single artist’s take on the iconic source material, The Dark Side of the Moon – The 8-bit Album is instead a collaborative effort featuring the skills and styles of ten distinct acts including Bit_Rat, EvilWezil, Videogame Orchestra and Temp Sound Solutions. Yet thanks to clever track transitions the album still manages the proper level of cohesion throughout its 40 minute play time.
Like all of the Squad’s fine releases it is free to download. Because money, so they say, is the root of all evil today.
