After Wok Star I broke out Scrabble Flash for a quick filler game. It’s a new game that Hasbro sent me shortly before PAX; since it fits in a small plastic case I decided to just take it with me. At first glance it looks kind of gimmicky: five little square LCD screens, each displaying a letter. However, once you start shifting them around it’s hard not to get hooked. The tiles recognize each other, and when you form a word it beeps and blinks at you and records a point. Make as many words as you can in three minutes, and when time’s up it tells you your score, plus the maximum possible score with that letter combination. There’s also a game where you make as many 5-letter words as possible, and then a multiplayer elimination mode. This wasn’t the only time Scrabble Flash made an appearance at PAX, either—it’s a fun, short game that fits into a bit of down time as easily as it fits in your pocket.
