One of my most unexpected finds was Pajaggle, which is technically not even a board game. It’s more like a puzzle, laser-cut from colorful acrylic in little geometric shapes reminiscent of Spirograph designs. While at its core it’s just a puzzle, there are several games you can play once you get a couple of the boards together. There’s the simple race to finish, of course, or you can pile all the different-colored pieces together to play Chaos, where you try to finish your board first using any colors available. (Optional rule: try to use as few of your own color as possible.)
I spent some time chatting with Bill Witt, chairman of Pajaggle, who was very enthusiastic about his puzzle boards, and rightly so. After all, who would’ve thought that you could go to PAX and convince a bunch of hardcore videogamers and tabletop gamers to sit and play with a puzzle? I sat down just to try it out and ended up staying for a few games. When I ran into Girls Are Geeks later on, I sent them over to try it out as well. I ended up buying two boards from Ancient Wonders to bring home to my family, so look for a full report to come.
