I have rarely felt so conflicted. On the one hand, I’ve never watched an episode of Dancing with the Stars, and I’m fairly (and snobbishly, I freely admit) proud of that fact. On the other hand, they’ve gone ahead and signed up one of the most famous geeks alive to be on the new U.S. season, starting tonight (8pm EDT, 7pm CDT) so I may just have to watch and, of course, vote for him.
I refer, of course, to Woz: the one and only Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, without whom the PC revolution of the late 1970s would have likely been slower and less interesting. It will be interesting to see how he does on the show, since, while he’s a geek with a physique not typically thought of as suited to athletic dancing, he’s also extremely popular with a certain segment of the population. And the members of that population segment, if they can forgive him for the pink silk shirt he’s wearing in the video below, may just vote for him in large enough numbers to keep him on the show for a while.
