Watch Presidential Cupcake Art in Progress!

Geek Culture People

What may be the ultimate in cake art is in progress right now! In honor of Presidents’ Day in the U.S., artist Zilly Rosen is creating a huge double portrait of Presidents Lincoln and Obama out of cupcakes. Yes, right now, on the floor of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. (in conjunction with the National Portrait Gallery), Rosen’s helpers are using cupcakes as pixels to put the portrait in place (unintentional alliteration FTW!).

Today from now until 5pm EST and tomorrow from noon until 6:30pm EST, you can watch the portrait being assembled via UStream below. If you’re in the D.C. area tomorrow, you can stop by the museum to view it in person, and go to the Kogod Courtyard for Presidential Family Fun Day, with all sorts of activities for the kids; following that, you can participate in the disassembling of the installation by eating a cupcake. Tell me, when has art ever been more appealing to kids than that?
