In the world of mash ups and parodies and geek-driven ideas there is more out there in cyberspace than any of us can see in one lifetime.
But here is one simple idea inspired by a witty (and currently sleep deprived) GeekDad Adam Ford.
Adam has two little geek girls under two. He is a writer, poet, editor, zinester and general all-round wordy sort of guy. This is one of his creations.
Introducing – Monkey Punch Dinosaur.
This simple web-blog is clearly rooted in that classic geek fantasy of who would win in a battle between King Kong and Godzilla. On this blog, it is One-Nil to the mammals as various cartoonists and crayon scribblers have given their interpretations of the battle.
It is also (mildly) inspired by Adam’s “NeoPulp Manifesto” which is definitely worth a read as it attempts to find a serious literary place for comic book heroes and the bizarre inventions and idea of sci-fi. The manifesto has graced the pages of literary journals and like all manifesto’s is unforgiving and forthright and would be appreciated by GeekDad’s everywhere. What is it? Read it.
But, as an example (and I quote):
“NEOPULP IS NOT REALISM. IT IS UNREALISM, OVER-REALISM, COUNTER-REALISM. NO LONGER SHALL THERE BE ONE BOX FOR ACCURATE REALISM AND ANOTHER FOR UNREAL DEPICTIONS – THE LIKES OF FANTASY, SCIENCE FICTION, ROMANCE AND REALISM ALL COME TOGETHER UNDER THE NEOPULP BANNER.”
Monkey Punch Dinosaur will be coming to a close, but there are still 10 “punches” available. So, if you have a few spare jpgs you may just want to create some BAM! BIFF! KAPOW! and send it through. Alternatively, get your kids around the kitchen table and ask them to create a bit of Monkey Punch Dinosaur action.
