I can’t tell you how old I was when I first read The City and The Stars, and while I loved all of Mr. Clarke’s other works – Childhood’s End, Rendezvous With Rama, 2001 and its successors, Alvin’s story of self-discovery and his struggle to reunite a humanity torn asunder by eons of fear and isolation is still my favorite.  I’ve gone back and read it countless times, and every time I’m grateful for the visionary writers like Clarke who helped usher in our modern age with their imaginations and foresight.  Happy birthday, sir, and thank you.

Sir Arthur C. Clarke turns 90 tomorrow.
