Continue ReadingLast night was the 28th episode in our Dungeons & Dragons online Curse of Strahd campaign and it was tough, tense and very nearly ended in total disaster.
Continue ReadingSuddenly, deep, stomping, thrashing sounds filled the swamp around Engong and Her Associates. Ripples circled violently in the puddles at their feet as, over the horizon, two giant legs trod heavily towards them. Resting above the massive chicken legs was a ramshackle hut, precariously swaying left to right.
Continue ReadingKosef made his way along the corridor, silent as an ant in a tavern. Gimble Timbers watched, not daring to breathe. At the door, Kosef could hear Davian the Vintner, but didn’t recognize the refined voice that replied. Unsure of the voice’s owner, Kosef ushered his friend forward. Gimble Timbers put his ear to the oak door, heard the man, and in a second all of the blood had drained from his face. There could be no mistaking that voice. STRAHD!
Continue ReadingSession 25 in our online Dungeons & Dragons ‘Curse of Strahd’ campaign was short and to the point. Literally. Due to unexpected work commitments, childcare issues, and technical glitches, our normal two-and-a-half-hour Skype session was cut to just one hour. Our DM still managed to pack in a whole load of stuff into such a short time though. Including setting up a meeting with Strahd himself!
Continue ReadingBaräsh and Engong both readied themselves to dash down the hill after their fallen comrade. But they were shocked to see Kosef dive down first. He landed where Victor’s body lay.
Continue ReadingLast night was the 23rd session in my D&D group’s ‘Curse of Strahd’ campaign. We have been playing once per week over Skype and for the most part have managed to survive our time in vampire and horror suffused Barovia.
Continue ReadingThe 22nd session of my Dungeons & Dragons group’s play through of ‘Curse of Strahd’ was strange and full of tension. We had traveled from the Wizards of Wines winery to Krezk in search of an Abbot who we had been told could heal our friend. When we arrived at the gates, there was some hostility, but once we mentioned that we had wine, they allowed us in.
Continue ReadingThey had only been travelling for a couple of hours when Engong and Her Associates heard the commotion on the road ahead. If only they’d known it was Victor, the idiot wizard son of the ex-burgomaster of Vallaki.
Continue ReadingThis was the 20th visit to Barovia in my D&D group’s ongoing ‘Curse of Strahd’ campaign. Only one of our party has died (properly) so far. As we began, I couldn’t help but think that statistic was soon about to change.
Continue ReadingThe oppressive Barovian mists closed in around the party as they made their way down the winding shingled path towards the Wizards of Wines winery. They could see the wooden dilapidated construct looming ominously out of the fog one hundred yards ahead.
Continue ReadingAs the heroes crossed the fields to the south, Vallaki burned behind them. Thick black clouds billowed up from the town in immense pillars that pushed back the sky. Engong and Her Associates felt no guilt.
Continue ReadingAs he looked over his shoulder, Kosef saw thick pillars of black smoke billowing from the shattered stained glass windows and three figures mischievously hurrying away from the church. They quickly caught up with him and a taciturn nod from the gnome was all that needed to be said.
Continue ReadingAt that moment Engong came smashing through the window. She had climbed to the roof and used Kosef’s rope of binding to swing heroically into Victor’s dormitory. Stunned and panicked, Victor began furiously turning the pages of his mystical tome.
Continue ReadingEveryone in the tavern heard Izek’s body break. His two henchmen stood, paralyzed by the shock of what they had just seen. Irwin drew his shortsword for the first time in many years, “EVERYBODY GET OUT!” he shouted. “You have doomed us all.”
Continue ReadingAs Baräsh crossed the threshold of the church he turned and saw Kevon in the vampire’s clutches. Strahd’s focus was now entirely upon the tiefling, his mouth open revealing two sharp extended incisors that closed around Kevon’s neck. He did not struggle as Strahd drained his blood.
Continue ReadingAs we entered the tent we saw a hunched figure cradling a crystal ball. “At last you have arrived. Ha ha ha ha,” said Madame Eva. She then proceeded to recount our entire life stories to us. “Do you now wish me to unravel the strands of fate and reveal your future in this accursed land?”
Continue ReadingWe were scattered around the clearing, recovering from the witch battle as a tall, pale man appeared out of the mists before us. Dressed in a very fine suit and with slicked back hair, he confidently strode towards us, two fierce wolves prowling in file behind. Strahd Von Zarovich…
Continue ReadingLast night was the sixth session of our Curse of Strahd campaign. We awoke in the morning, refreshed. We felt rejuvenated and happy for the first time since we met in the abandoned caravan site a few days earlier. And then the memories of the past days’ events came back to us.
Continue ReadingWe were in a dark crypt below the church. The stairs leading back had been covered in a magical grease, the fighter was feeling the effects of bad cheese poisoning, there was a wild magic storm going on. What’s more, our enemy seemed to hardly have suffered any damage at all. We were on the ropes …
Continue ReadingLast night we began a new ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ campaign over Skype.
Continue ReadingYour D&D party finds themselves drawn into a world of gothic nightmare and sanguine stains. With little knowledge of the realm of Barovia, the party must find a way to escape the evil grasp of Strahd von Zarovich, the dread vampire lord of the land.
