Ray – 9/10

Ray: The final issue of this action-packed Black Label series has the three vigilantes battling to escape the artificial city of Arcadia, which has been exposed as a fraud. With Bruce Wayne invited as a potential client, Oliver Queen trying to take back his company, and Vic Sage embedded with the laborers, everyone has a stake here – and as the screws titan, the corrupt Rotha and his murderous henchman Billings prove just how low they’re willing to sink to keep their secrets. There are some great showdowns, some epic karma dealt out, and a tense escape. I felt like the Question got lost a little in the shuffle of this issue, and this finale also reminds us in a big way that this is a Black Label series and firmly out of continuity. The final scene raises some fascinating questions about what the world looks like now that honestly intrigue me more than much of the main plot.

DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: The Metal Legion – Ian Flynn, Writer; Adam Bryce Thomas, Artist; Matt Herms, Colorist

Ray – 9/10

Ray: This series has lived up to the hype of the first series, being a fun, chaotic adventure with a larger cast. Robotnik’s alliance with the Legion of Doom has successfully led to the League and their Sonic counterparts being trapped in the Phantom Zone, but the villains can never quite leave well enough alone. Luthor quickly backstabs Robotnik, only for Robotnik to turn the tables and unleash the Metal Legion of the title to ambush the other villains and take control of their headquarters. The fun part of this is that both Luthor and Robotnik sent a spy to target the other one – but Catwoman and Rouge were working together the whole time and have been funneling info back to the heroes. That allows the B-team to save the day – with some unlikely alliances like Batgirl and Tangle – as well as to free the main heroes just in time for next issue’s big battle against the villains’ robot doubles.
