Ray: The battle for the emotional spectrum continues to heat up, as the reborn entities have become the hottest potato in the universe. The newest players to enter the fray? The Manhunters, the ancient predecessors of the Lanterns, who aim to bring ruthless order to the entire universe. They’ve managed to hijack the body of Aya, as the synthetic Lantern has been turned into a puppet to lead the army. Fortunately, Aya has managed to transmit her consciousness into a construct, allowing her to continue guiding the Lanterns through the war. However, the stakes are higher than ever as the remaining entities are in the wild, and the only way to keep them safe is to give them a stable host. Fatality has been designated the host for the Indigo entity, which seems to be going smoothly. Sinestro is hoping his alliance with the Lanterns will help him get his hands on Parallax again – but his daughter has other plans.
The growing rivalry between Soranik Natu and Sinestro has been fun to see unfold, as both of them are working together with the Corps for the first time but still have drastically different philosophies. However, the biggest conflict this issue comes between Larfleeze and the entity he thought was his birthright. Ophidan, the entity of Avarice, has been Larfleeze’s possession for so long that it seemed almost foregone, but now the reborn snake entity has a different host in mind – Effigy, the old enemy of Kyle Rayner’s. While Larfleeze only wanted to use the entity to collect, this new host has bigger plans, and he wastes no time throwing the entire universe into chaos with an attack on the sun itself. The scale is huge, and the idea of these “wild powers” loose in the universe is a clever way to shake things up. With the flagship title being more earth-based for now, it’s great to see this title going for broke.
