goodbye my 4 track

Logan Whitehurst might not be a name that you know, but it’s certainly one you should. While he got his start drumming for indie outfits like Little Tin Frog and The Velvet Teen, he made his true mark as a humorous, heartful singer-songwriter.

As Logan Whitehurst and the Junior Science Club, he began sharing this work in the late 1990s via the proto-digital music marketplace MP3.com. An early success story of the truly independent online musician, Whitehurst even managed to catch the ear of comedy music luminary Dr. Demento. Unfortunately, Logan passed away in 2006—at the painfully young age of 29—due to brain cancer. His legacy, however, lives on.

Not only does the Funny Music Project continue to honor his name through the annual Logan Whitehurst Memorial Award for Excellence in Comedy Music (the Logan Awards for short), but fellow musicians Austin Ash Lemon and Jace McLain have just launched a new Kickstarter to reissue his landmark album Goodbye, My 4-Track.

A product of their netlabel, Needlejuice Records, this Kickstarter offers the album on vinyl, CD, cassette, and digitally—not to mention exclusives like the original The Mini Album of Luv companion EP, rare promo posters, and even out-of-print copies of Dr. Demento’s own famed Basement Tapes compilations.

The good Dr. himself went so far as to call Goodbye, My 4-Track “the Sgt. Pepper’s of comedy music,” so please take a moment to check out the pitch, and, if this release speaks to you, consider contributing.
