This week, we’re taking a closer look at everyone’s favorite faceless bad guys: Stormtroopers! Ryder Windham has written roughly 70 books for the Star Wars universe (spanning decades), and his newest is Stormtroopers: Beyond the Armor (coauthored with Adam Bray). The book is an in-depth look at the history, design, and many depictions of Stormtroopers across media (movies, cartoons, comics, novels, and merchandising). It even touches on fan cosplay and the unique work done by the 501st Legion.
On top of the impressive research Windham and Bray bring to the book, it’s also filled to the brim with photographs (some never before published!), illustrations, and concept art. In short, this is a book you’ll want in your collection.
On this episode, we chat with Windham about the surprising start of his writing career, working for Dark Horse Comics, what exactly a comic book editor does, and all of the work that went into the new Stormtroopers book. Plus, we find out the surprising Star Wars character with which he most identifies!
