Nintendo Confirms SNES Classic for September Release

Featured Videogames

Ever since the unexpected announcement (and equally surprising discontinuation of) the NES Classic Edition, fans and industry insiders have been abuzz about the awesome potential of a follow-up focusing on the might and majesty that was the Super Nintendo. And, finally, today Nintendo of America let the cat out of the proverbial bag; yes, there are plans to release a Super NES Classic Edition!

The SNES Classic will arrive September 29th at a retail price of $79.99, and this miniature throwback system will come complete with a pair of wired controllers to support your requisite multiplayer mayhem.

Included with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition are one HDMI cable, one USB charging cable with AC adapter and two wired Super NES Classic Controllers, perfect for playing multiplayer games. Having two controllers will make it easy for two players to dive into multiplayer action right away. Some of the games with multiplayer options include Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Mario Kart, Contra III: The Alien Wars and Secret of Mana.

Check below for a full list of the system’s 21 bundled games, and feel free to use the comments section to share your favorite 16-bit memories, reflect on forgotten SNES classic titles, or, y’know, just speculate about the relative scarcity of this forthcoming fall release.

    1. I’d’ve loved to have Turtles in Time on there myself. And I know GeekDad Anthony couldn’t believe there was no Chrono Trigger.
