OId and New Nintendo Manga Coming From Viz Media

If you grew up during the 80s and had both a heartbeat and an NES, then chances are very good that you also had  a subscription to (or had a friend with a subscription to) Nintendo Power. Otherwise known as the single greatest video game magazine ever published. Don’t even bother trying to argue that with me. If you feel otherwise, you’re just wrong.

Published in the pages of that magazine from 1992-1993 was a series of comics based on everyone’s favorite Italian plumbers. Since that was long before the Internet invaded our lives, those strips and stories sadly slipped into obscurity. Alas, poor Luigi, I knew him….

However, this October, Viz Media is bringing them back! Super Mario Adventures will reintroduce us to these long-out-of-print comics in a stunning, full-color graphic novel written by Kentaro Takekuma and with art by Charlie Nozawa.

The peril-plagued Princess Toadstool is kidnapped by the diabolical deadbeat Bowser but super plumbers Mario and Luigi hatch a plan with their new friend Yoshi to rescue her. Are the Super Mario Bros’ plans a pipe dream? Can they stop the Koopa King before he forces the Princess to be his bride?!

But wait! That’s not all! Did that not quite scratch your itch for Nintendo manga? Well….do you like The Legend of Zelda? Of course you do.

Set to release this spring is the next installment in The Legend of Zelda manga from creator Akira Himekawa. The English-language version of Twilight Princess is coming your way in the spring (tentatively scheduled for March 7) and should fine a nice home with the rest of your collection.

Once upon a time, wizards tried to conquer the Sacred Realm of Hyrule. The Spirits of Light sealed the wizards’ power within the Shadow Crystal and banished them to the Twilight Realm beyond the Mirror of Twilight. Now, an evil menace is trying to find Midna, Princess of the Twilight Realm, and the fragments of the Shadow Crystal to gain the power to rule over both the Twilight Realm and the World of Light.
