Target has launched a new Connected Nursery section at 450 stores across the country.
With more and more smart devices on the market, using that to the advantage of raising happy, healthy babies is a great next step. With that in mind, Target is bringing a slate of new devices to their stores in a Connected Nursery section.
I received a sample smart device to try out, the Kinsa Thermometer. I don’t know a single parent who doesn’t own at least one thermometer. You’re probably thinking, “How smart can a thermometer be?” The thermometer itself is a used like a normal oral, rectal, or underarm thermometer with one big difference–it connects to your smart phone and, with a free app, helps you better track and monitor the health of your kids (and any other family members).
In the box, there’s the Kinsa Thermometer itself, along with a setup adapter, a storage case, an extension cord, and an instruction manual.
Setup is super simple. After downloading the Kinsa app, the app walks you through setting up the thermometer with your device. Then you can immediately start taking temperatures.
But where the true power lies is with the ability to create profiles for each child or family member. Under each profile, not only can you simply take a temperature reading, but you can also log symptoms, photos, a diagnosis, and enter notes. This makes it extremely easy to keep track of things, especially in the midst of late night sick bed happenings.
One other thing of note: if you allow the Kinsa app to access your location, it will alert you to potential warnings in your area (ie. “Strep throat is going around in your area”).
When our daughter was born, we had to take hourly temperature readings and not only keep track of them but make sure she stayed within a very specific range. There were a couple of times at 2 AM when we couldn’t remember our own names much less what the thermometer said. I would have loved to have had the Kinsa then, but I’m sure it will come in handy in the future when–not if–one of our kids gets sick again. At only $19.99, the Kinsa Thermometer is a steal even without all the added smart benefits.
The Kinsa also comes in ear and a Sesame Street branded versions.
