Reaping the Rewards is a series looking at finished products from crowdfunding campaigns. Today’s topic: the MiaMilly Hipster Plus, a baby carrier originally funded on Kickstarter in late May and delivered to backers earlier this month. My original article focused on the features of the carrier, so this article focuses on how my family uses and likes the carrier.
We have two kiddos, a very large 3-and-a-half-year-old, and a teeny three-month-old. So, while the MiaMilly Hipster Plus is the most configurable carrier on the market–it can be used for forward facing and inward facing front carries, hip carries and back carries, with and without the included double or available single strap attachments – –for now we have only been able to use it in the infant configuration and as a toddler hip seat.
In the infant configuration, there is a very plush infant insert. Our daughter loves it and falls asleep every time we use it. However, the insert is super warm, so with the recent rash of summer weather in Seattle, we haven’t been able to use it as much as we’d like. We’re looking forward to her getting just a bit bigger so we can use the carrier without the insert and open the zippered mesh panel in front to allow some airflow. The straps are comfortable, and we especially like the little pad on the back buckle that keeps it from digging in at the shoulders. It fits both my 6′ tall husband and my 5’5″ self with ease and a few inches of room.
But the best, and most unexpected, benefit of this carrier is how great it is for my toddler. The strap on the hip seat is reinforced with velcro and a buckle, and stays put. He fits comfortably on the seat/pocket portion of the belt and, as you can tell from the pictures, loves it. We often joke that my son has his own center of gravity because he’s REALLY difficult to carry, and the hip seat has made a huge difference.
The configurability and comfort of this carrier for both my husband and I carrying both of our kids has made it a huge win in our home. We use it almost every day. I definitely recommend it!
Disclosure: I received a review copy of this carrier. All opinions are my own.
