The bad news? We’re not getting those gorgeous, limited edition Pokémon 2DS systems here in the States. The good news? We’re getting a whole lot more!

Yesterday The Pokémon Company International announced that 2016, the 20th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, will see a year-long celebration complete with special promotions, new products, and even a live-action TV commercial during the Super Bowl.

Things kick-off in earnest on Pokémon Day–Saturday, February 27th–with the re-release of Pokémon Red Version, Blue Version, and Yellow Version digitally via the Nintendo eShop. Red and Blue will also be included in the New Nintendo 3DS Pokémon 20th Anniversary bundle, which also includes two special cover plates and a download code for an exclusive HOME Menu theme.

Throughout the year we’ll also be treated to a Pokémon TCG: Generations expansion; four Mythical Pokémon video game character distribution events; 12 full-length Pokémon feature films that will be made available for digital download from iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon; special Pokémon 20th anniversary apparel, accessories, and souvenirs from PokemonCenter.com; and much more.

Perhaps most importantly, though, fans are encouraged to take part and share their favorite Pokémon memories on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube using the hashtag #Pokemon20. You can learn more at the special Pokémon anniversary web site.
