If you’re looking to media to get in the Christmas spirit, you could drop in a Blu-ray of Miracle on 34th Street or stream the classic It’s a Wonderful Life. Heck, maybe you’re the kind of person who would prefer to have a DVD showing nothing but the image of a roaring fireplace on loop. However, if you’re like me, then it’s childhood nostalgia that warms the heart.
Sure, Christmas shouldn’t be about consumerism, but heck, I grew up in the ’80s, when our entire Saturday mornings were nothing but continuous sest of commercials. Not only that, but don’t forget that in the days of network-only television, Christmas was practically the pinnacle of the entire programming calendar. That’s why I was thrilled to go down a massive YouTube hole and end up on an entire hour of nothing but holiday-themed retro commercials.
In this mix you get not only the Christmas commercials you’d expect such as the requisite Toys ‘R Us ad, but several that you probably forgot about over the years such as the California Raisins Christmas Special. Watching these take me back to making out post-viewing wish lists to send to Santa, but it also makes me pine for simpler times. Regardless of whether or not you watch these for novelty or genuine nostalgia, I guarantee you’ll find a sliver of Christmas cheer along the way.
