Well, the big day is over and everyone’s settling into food comas and post-unwrapping quietude. If you’re looking for a new holiday flick, look no further than A Very Murray Christmas (exclusively on Netflix). It’s a new Netflix Original, directed by Sofia Coppola and starring (of course) Bill Murray.
It’s a big ensemble cast that includes George Clooney, Chris Rock, Paul Shaffer, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Michael Cera, Rashida Jones, and several others. The film is about an hour long, with plenty of new and old Christmas tunes.
The story finds Bill Murray stuck in NYC’s Carlyle Hotel during a blizzard–he’s supposed to be hosting a live holiday special, but nobody can make it, so he’s doing his best to rope in anyone who’s around to sing along with him–the serving staff at the bar, a young couple who intended to have a wedding reception at the hotel before the power went out, and so on. But the plot isn’t the point, really. It reminds me a little of A Prairie Home Companion–it’s mostly an excuse to string together a bunch of musical numbers, tied up with a little holiday tale.
