Yesterday’s press release from Nintendo confirmed what we’ve known all along: Smash Bros. is crazy popular!

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, the first portable iteration of the franchise, has sold more than 2.8 million copies worldwide. This news set the stage for the big reveal, the November 21st NA release date of its big brother Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Launching alongside Super Smash Bros. Wii U will be Nintendo’s interactive amiibo figure line. Retail priced at $12.99 each, 12 characters – Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby and Marth – will be included in the first wave, with a second wave of six more figures – Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit and Captain Falcon – set to launch in December. December will also see the release of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (December 5th), which joins a growing list of additional amiibo-compatible games that includes Mario Party 10, Yoshi’s Woolly World and, of course, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U.

Most of these items are currently available for pre-order via Amazon… in case you were wondering what you should get me for Christmas.
