The Mythicals

Monster Factory makes adorable plush creatures, with quirky looks and personalities to match. Seriously adorable—I dare you go to look at the website, because you’ll find at least five of them that you absolutely must have.

They’ve currently got over a hundred different characters, but today they’re launching a Kickstarter project to start a new line: The Mythicals. The first three are Spencer the Dragon, Margot the Unicorn, and Louie the Cthulhu, with a few more waiting in the wings if they hit their stretch goals. Monster Factory sent me a sample of Louie so I could check it out.

As you can see from the photo above, Louie is about 10 inches tall. He’s made of a micro polar fleece material, and stuffed with polyfil. But what you can’t tell from the photo is that it’s stuffed really firm, firmer than most plush toys. It’s still squishable, but feels substantial, which is nice.

I’ll admit: I’m currently hiding Louie from my seven-year-old, who is Cthulhu-obsessed, because I think it’ll make a really great surprise for her birthday this fall, but I may need to pick up Margot for my older daughter, too. I did sneak Louie out to get a few pictures with my baby girl, though, who thought the tentacles were fun to pull on. (And, hey, they survived the gentle tugging.)

The cost to back one of these lovely critters is $49 CAD (roughly $45 USD), with some discounts if you back for multiples. There are also some early bird slots available that’ll get you a mini Colin for free, or if you want, you can also just back for $25CAD to get a mini Colin and a mini Todd, two of their more popular monsters.

From the Kickstarter page, it looks like other potential monsters in the Mythical line include a Pegasus, Yeti, and a sea monster—but first they need to get funded. Visit the Kickstarter page for more about The Mythicals and to pledge for one! The estimated delivery date is in October this year, so (barring unforeseen delays) you should be able to get them in time for the holidays, too.

Disclosure: Monster Factory provided a sample of Louie for review purposes.
