We have not one, not two, but three pieces of news about one of the best cartoon shows currently on TV, Gravity Falls. First, tonight’s new episode “Gideon Rises” concludes both the show’s second season and the two-part episode begun two weeks ago. Second, Disney has released a new tower defense game for iOS devices called Gravity Falls Mystery Shack Attack, which promises to be a lot of fun. And third, as you might be aware if you’ve visited a Subway restaurant recently, Disney is partnering with the chain on a promotion in conjunction with their “Fresh Fit for Kids Meals.”
In tonight’s season finale, airing at 8:30pm ET/PT on Disney Channel (and followed by a new Phineas and Ferb!), here’s what happens, according to the official press release:
Gideon swindles the Mystery Shack away from Stan, everything in Gravity Falls appears to be even more west of weird – Dipper, Mabel and Grunkle Stan are forced to move in with Soos and his grandmother, while the town remains enamored with Gideon’s charm. Meanwhile, Grunkle Stan isn’t certain he can take care of the twins and is considering sending them back home. With their summer in Gravity Falls threatening to come to an end, Mabel and Dipper decide to take on Gideon and win back their home.
Here’s an exclusive clip from the episode:
The new game, Gravity Falls Mystery Shack Attack, sees Dipper, Mabel, and Grunkle Stan threatened by the evil minions of Li’l Gideon. Players help prevent them from being scared out of Gravity Falls by placing gadgets and knick-knacks from the Mystery Shack in a tower defense-style game. Features of the game, according to the press release, include:
- Help Dipper and Mabel defend key “Gravity Falls” locations: The Mystery Shack, Dusk 2 Dawn, Arcade, Summerween Superstore and the Tent of Telepathy.
- Access to more than 20 defensive items, including the Manotaur War Horn, Gnome Launcher, Sneezing Powder, and more.
- Summon the Giant Gnome Monster, Rumble McSkirmish and other Gravity Falls characters to help defend and block the minions.
And here’s an exclusive video from the opening segment of the game:

As for the Subway promo, it’s pretty fun: Each low-fat “Fresh Fit for Kids” meal will come with a Gravity Falls bag — there are three aimed at girls and two aimed at boys — with a special sticker or window decal related to the show. I haven’t seen the boys’ bags in person, but my daughter has two of the girls’ bags and loves them — not least because both included several plastic jewels for “bezazzling” (as Mabel would say). See a few pics of the bags below.
