Really, our sponsor for the week, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab; “Purveyors of Fine Esoteric Goods, Purfumes, and Oils” probably requires little to no introduction. I’ve been a huge fan, personally, for years, and as a proud owner of the RPG line, I can accurately say that I take them with me every day (my favorite combination being the Lawful Paladin). The lab is a great, geeky, gothy store featuring unique scents formulated in the spirit of some beloved genre institutions. In their own words:
We specialize in formulating body and household blends with a dark, romantic Gothic tone. Our scents run the aesthetic gamut of magickal, pagan and mythological blends, Renaissance, Medieval and Victorian formulas, and horror / Gothic-themed scents.
To give you an idea of the whimsical potions they produce, we’ll be featuring a different (and especially geeky) product each day this week.
And today’s feature should be well-known to the comic fans out there. And we know there’re a lot of you. Really quite fittingly, I think that the big red dude requires little to no introduction, either.
Yes, I’m talking about Hellboy.
And it’s not just Hellboy, but a series of six scents created with the blessing of famed creator Mike Mignola himself. The artwork on the bottles is classic Hellboy, and the scents have quite a sense of humor as well as real impressive scentual layers, too.
Take the Hellboy scent. The description is listed thusly: Aftershave, candy wrappers, brimstone, and cat. Really, you can’t distill him down to it any better. And while I think I’d quite like the Liz scent (floral with hints of smoke and leather, but of course), I think it’s the Bruttenholm that I’d like to splash on my husband: “A classic men’s cologne mixed with the scent of old, yellowed books, a splash of bay rum, and summoning incense.” Rum. Yum.
