I recently picked up a set of the Lego Black Pearl to check out for myself – I mean, to build with my son. This is a fantastic build! My pessimistic son was troubled that it would not float in the tub; but hey, you can’t have everything and that includes $100 worth of Lego floating in dirty bathwater. Seriously, the build on this is excellent. The ship itself is made of a few large ‘ship’ sections of Lego, with regular bricks to hold it all together and decorate. The rear of the ship, or aft, (or poop deck) is neat because three of the walls open to reveal the cabin and the roof is removable. This reminds me of the movable walls that would be used on a movie set.

The rigging is different from Lego ships of the past in that the sails just pop on to round a peg Lego protruding from the masts. This makes for very quick work of attaching the black cloth sails. Finally, the collection of minifigs (aka Lego people) that is included gives you a great selection of good guys and bad guys from the first three movies. This way you — I mean your kids — can enjoy swashbuckling ship board, while they battle for control of the Black Pearl.
