We GeekDads love games, and independent games doubly so. This means that we collectively spend an inordinate amount of time perusing Kickstarter pages, as this has become an easy and effective avenue through which to acquire funding for indie gaming projects. One such fundraising effort is for card game Flapjacks & Sasquatches – Now with a Side of Bacon from Minneapolis-based Prolific Games.

While the original Flapjacks & Sasquatches was well-received – even earning a “Best New Family Card Game” nomination from Games Magazine – creators Bill Sininger and John Harris are now looking to drum up support for a second edition. The first run was printed, assembled and distributed locally and by the guys themselves, but Prolific Games wants to expand its scope beyond regional merchants and convention contacts. Essentially, this newer version, Flapjacks & Sasquatches – Now with a Side of Bacon, will boast not only sturdier card stock and the titular Side of Bacon expansion, but also help better position the product for national distribution.

The current iteration of Flapjacks & Sasquatches stands out as a fun, frantic but never frustrating lumberjack adventure wherein players seek to acquire cards that help them (such as axes, flapjacks and helpers) and hinder their opponents (like the dreaded Bigfoot skunk ape Sasquatch) as they attempt to cut down the most trees. Boasting lighthearted humor and an easy-to-grasp dice mechanic, it’s a tree-toppin’ good time that’s great for GeekParents and geeklings alike, and a donation to the Kickstarter fund can score you quality swag like promo cards, specialty dice and copies of the first and second edition game sets.

With only five days to go the Prolific Games crew is just under $2000 away from their goal. So dig deep, GeekDad audience!
