I absolutely love Aaron Renier’s Spiral-Bound (one of my picks for non-traditional kids’ comics last fall) and have been waiting for his next book for some time. My wait is finally over. The Unsinkable Walker Bean came out last month, and it’s a whopper of a tale: pirates, giant woman-headed lobster monsters from the deep, and a mysterious cursed skull. (Trust me: it’s much better than the last Indiana Jones flick.) This one is targeted at a slightly older crowd than Renier’s original, but should still be fine for tweens and up.

Wired: Full of adventure, contraptions, and clever kids. Did I mention there’s another book coming?

Tired: Not sure if my six-year-old is quite ready for the lobster monsters yet. Hopefully the wait for Book 2 won’t be nearly as long.
