Scary Nightlights

Geek Culture

NightlightNightlight We carved the first pumpkins of the year today, following the trip to the Apple Orchard and Pumpkin patch yesterday.  The boys added some Geek touches on their own. The eye was designed to hold a Bionicle Cordak blaster.  Unfortunately, my pumpkin carving skills are not equal to their design skills and the blaster could not be fired from inside the pumpkin.

By adding some LED’s left over from a previous adventure, we were able to create the scary glowing pumpkin you see in the picture.  They decided to use them as nightlights. I’m hoping that there are no late night fearful visits as a result.

Recipe for Toasting pumpkin seeds.  Remove seeds from pumpkin, removing strings but not washing seeds, and toss with 1 tbsp oil per cup of seeds and salt as desired. Spread seeds one level deep on a cookie sheet and heat for 1.5 hours at 250 degrees to dry the seeds.  Season and heat for 10-15 more minutes at 350 degrees to toast.    (Joy of Cooking)
