Yuri’s Night Parties This Saturday

Get down, party Geekdads! This Saturday (April 12th) is Yuri’s Night, a World Space Party held every year to commemorate Yuri Gagarin’s first spaceflight on April 12, 1961. The first celebration was in 2001, and it’s been getting bigger every year.

Yuri’s Night is like the St Patrick’s Day or Cinco de Mayo for space.  It is one day when all the world can come together and celebrate the power and beauty of space and what it means for each of us.

There are parties all around the world, including a huge festival at NASA Ames in the Bay Area and even one in Second Life. Check the official site to find a party near you. Some are family-friendly, but double-check to make sure. The geeklet and I will be attending the San Diego party at the aptly-named Killer Pizza From Mars, and I’ll post photos to the Geekdad group on Flickr.
