I have to confess that I had steered clear of amigurumi projects before now. I felt that they would take too much time, like knitting (which is something I am yet to accomplish). On the other side, I am totally smitten by the new thick yarns and small, doable projects that have been popping up in my feed lately, so I had to give this skill a try.
Crochet is one of those “in the zone” activities that, once you master it, allows you to keep practicing whilst watching TV or listening to a podcast, helping you to steer clear of scrolling, and with an adorable result!
Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures and whimsical objects. The word combines ami (meaning crocheted or knitted) and nuigurumi (meaning a stuffed doll).
Amigurumi Affirmations. 30 Cute and Easy Crochet Projects to Brighten Your Day and Lift Your Spirits – Includes printed and downloadable cards! by Lee Sartori (Author)
This book caught my attention because it combines a soft creature and an endearing message. I have a niece who is an amigurumi expert since she was a child, and now thrives selling all kinds of stuffed creatures on the side. I thought about her, and would love to display a little crayon or avocado, or potato, cradling a cute message, right in front of my monitor. You know, like proud aunts are prone to do.
The thirty patterns suggested here also offer a host of positive messages (This little potato believes in you, or a crayon holding up a sign saying: Color outside the lines). Crafting little reminders of happiness and positivity can add a touch of charm and mindfulness to your day.

Besides displaying the soft crocheted dolls, you can also carry them around by adding clips for your purse, backpack, or keychain.
Projects include mini mushrooms, citrus slices, smiley faces, waffles, retro icons, etc. Their key element is that they are meant to be small.
These projects are easy to stitch, perfect for beginners. The book offers playful photographs, easy-to-follow techniques, and guidance.
They celebrate the joy of small crochet with tiny projects that are charming to boot. Do try the super chunky yarn; it adds extra fluffiness to all projects.
