Ray: Wally West’s journey has been one largely defined by him coming to terms with his own powers and his grief over the people he’s lost, but in the last few issues a much larger mystery has opened up. After his adventure with Linda in the Mirrorverse, where they encountered Sam Scudder, Wally has returned to Ralph Dibny’s mission and is trying to stay below the radar as he seeks answers – but it’s not long before a much bigger threat finds him. A mysterious shadowy being emerges from the void, rips apart Ralph Dibny when he tries to protect the kids from it – and then time freezes, and out of the void steps Wally West. An older version, with a new costume, warning his younger counterpart that this being will emerge if he keeps on trying to rescue his father. It seems that the Speed Force might have a link to some even more dangerous force – and Wally is getting far too close to unleashing it.

That scare is enough to cause Wally to change his strategy – not to abandon his search, but to head off from the mission and leave Linda behind. He’s on the trail of the other people Scudder mentioned – in addition to the deceased Barry Allen, there was Ray Palmer and Silas Stone. Palmer is presumed dead, but Scudder indicated that might not be the case. As for the Rogues, they get back into this issue in a big way – being pulled out of semi-retirement in the country by Rick Flag, their former government liaison who wants to task them with a mission that might instantly make him one of the most hated characters in comics. The end of this issue has some huge lore drops about the mysterious Still Point, the possible introduction of another major player, and some amazing visuals. Of all the Absolute titles right now, I think this is the one with the most engaging lead character driving it.
